I think you are better off buying the laptop in US as your requirements are really high end. In India, specs you are suggesting will set you back around 60K or more. Will do research.

You can buy a DELL Studio 15 or DELL Vostro but neither support the latest Intel Centrino 2 technology from Intel.

    Studio 15 - 47000 w/o tax

    15.4" screen with webcam
    vista home premium
    2.1GHz
    intel X3100 graphics(ATI Radeon HD3450 optional)
    4 gb ram
    250GB harddisk
    dvd writer
    bluetooth
6 cell battery( 9 cell battery optional)

    Vostro 1510

    15.4" screen with webcam
    vista home basic
    2 ghz
    intel X3100(Nvidia Geforce 8400GS optional)
    4 gb ram
    dvd writer
    bluetooth
    6 cell battery

The vostro 1510 starts at 31K w/o OS and lesser features.

The new DELL Latitude E6400 and E5400 support the latest technology. They are 50% cheaper in US. Here they start at 95K and 61K. The Latitude E6400 was only 65K last month.

The Lenovo Thinkpad T400 is a really good choice not available in India. It is $1213 w/o tax (another $100)

    2.26 ghz
    4 gb ddr3 1066mhz
    160 gb HDD 7200 rpm
    14.1"
    vista basic
    bluetooth

The configuration you are asking for is available for less then 20k Check out the Benq laptops which they advertise in newspapers every day.

I am not too sure about the brand as I have never used it... may be those who have one of these can give some input on that.

U can go for Acer Aspire 5920... If u r looking for a desktop replacement... It satisfies ur required config. ... It must be around 30-32 K.... with 2 GB RAM... I would suggest add 2 GB more to it at the time of purchase... A 4 GB RAM laptop with core 2 duo processor & 160 GB HDD... will serve u in the long run... Acer is known for its robustness... So it is best brand if u wanna run ur lappy 24*7 like a server... Service is good all over India..
Webcam, Bluetooth, LAN, Wi-fi, Card-reader, multimedia keys, Hotkeys are all present in it... It has dolby surround sound audio...which is better than many laptop speakers..

    HI All,

    Thanks for reply,

After bit of search I found that Dell can give you a notebook as per ur configurations:

I have zeroed on Inspiron 1525, with following config.

    1) Intel Core2 Duo Processor T8300 - 2.4Ghz, 3MB Cache, 800Mhz FSB
    2) 4 GB Ram DDR2 SDRAM
    3) 160 GB HDD
    4) 15.4" Widescreen WXGA with all other standard features

I am planning to load it like a server (though not 24*7)

Total deal comes to be around 50K approx.
Also as per knoweledge Inspiron 1525 is very much trusted brand.

What's your say?, should I go ahead?

    Arrow Go in for XPS....

I would recommend that you go in for XPS as it already has a T8100 series processor which is an great processor having 2.1Ghz and 3mb cache memory and 800 Fsb for the latest ram. Also it has a RAM of 3GHz inbuilt which can be customized upto 4gb. and u can get the whole package in 60K. Or If you work in a good reputed company then go in for corporate dicsounts which range between 5-10% and this will make it range between 55K (as inspiron and studio itself cost around 50K). Also it has better battery backup and is very thin as compared to others like inspiron and studio.

Its never advisable to invest too much in laptops... As they become outdated in 1 yr... Inspiron 1525 config still holds good... But if u wanna go for value for money... therez a laptop Acer aspire 4930... Its config is better than Inspirion 1525 and it is Centrino 2 certified also... Cost is around 37K(including taxes)...
