At 35-40K you will not get a laptop of your desired specs. At this price, the laptop will have only 1 GB memory, about 120 GB HDD and on board graphics that may use part of the RAM as graphics memory. The speakers will be quite ordinary too (but you could use quality headphones instead).

Laptop graphic cards are generally not upgradable. In fact, very little on the laptop can be upgraded apart from memory and HDD. Hence a laptop becomes outdated very fast and therefore not a good choice for people who like to stick to their investment for a while.

A gaming laptop needs at least 2 MB RAM, 256 MB independant graphics card and good size screen. This makes the laptop not only costly but quite large and heavy. This defeats the purpose of make it very mobile. Such a laptop may be 60-70K at the minimum. So unless you are very keen on a laptop, I would suggest that you go for a desktop.

The best advantage of the laptop is that you can work/surf or watch movies while relaxing on your bed, sofa, etc.

I am not exactly aware of the prices. If you are getting 1525 for 44K with all the specs you want, then what is the confusion.

What use is 3gb ram in a laptop? who uses laptops for resopurce intensive tasks?

2gb ram if you want vista and 1gb ram is you want xp on it and anything more then that would be a waste of money I suppose and a seperate graphich card isint something you would need on a laptop unless you want to use it like a desktop and play games on it.

    Did you try this ?

    Dell Laptops

Just click the customize button and try to see if you can get your config for a price that you r satisfied with ........ Dell is one of the few Laptops [in india] that give you a good graphic card deal for a reasonable price

@ShAdOwCoN, sometimes (and just sometimes) you get better deals in Croma or eZone or any retailer that Dell's online price.

I was just checking the site. The price of Dell Inspiron 1525 with

    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T5800 (2.0GHz, 2MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB)
    - Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium 32 bit SP1 Edition (English)
    - 15.4" Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display
    - 3GB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    - 250GB SATA Hard Drive
    - Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilities
    - Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    - Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Software
    - Dell(TM) Nylon Backpack

comes to Rs.47,841.61 before taxes and delivery. Delivery is Rs. 500 extra and taxes are as applicable in the state where delivered.

Shivangi, Forget about ur desired Good configuration(discreet Graphic card) in Dell in 40K budget... Centrino 2 based Acer 4930 is the way to go... It has intel's latest onboard graphic cards(Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset with integrated 3D graphics, featuring Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD)... With new gemstone design, it looks good too... no brand can beat acer in terms of price they ask for... for ur info, its 3rd largest selling brand in the world... and leading brand in Europe... so no way inferior too... after sales service is good in India...

With price just around 37k(inclusive of taxes)... its a steal...
Sound is better than many other laptops out there in market...

This is cheaper than Dell because it does not have a [Dedicated] graphic card .......... Integrated Intel Graphics media accelarator is good for nothing ......

He has asked for atleast 128 Mb Dedicated graphic card .....

As i said before Dell is one of the few companies to give you a good dedicated graphic solutions

If you want your config better try Dell

For ur Info... Therez one more modified model Acer 4930G which comes with Nvidia's dedicated graphics card... And that is still cheaper than what u get after customizing dell for a dedicated graphics card...

I suggested her intel's graphic based laptop cuz her budget is 35-40k... will u get dell with a dedicated graphics card in that price? I'll answer it for u... NO... So if she doesn't increase her budget she'll have to get an intel graphic card based lappy...

Dell inspiron is offering inferior intel's graphic solution in 40 K... And Acer 4930 is asking 37 K for better Graphic's card of intel only... So, in my view Acer Aspire 4930 is anyday better than dell inspiron 1525...

    1. Bro... I don't use Acer 4930... One of my friend has bought it... And hez extremely happy with the performance..., Mine is 5920... which it is far inferior than inspiron 1525 too... and I'm not biased against Dell... I'm just comparing the configuration & Prices... Brandwise both are good... To me it seems u r the one who is brand conscious...

    2. My roomie had dell... And I've used it a lot too for 2 yrs... I'm not saying its bad... I'm just saying its priced higher for lower config...

    3. Shivangi has herself said(perhaps in another thread) that inspirion is for 40 K... She must have asked some store in her area to be sure like that...

    4. Don't give me crap about Vostro series... The requirement of thread starter is good looks/ergonomics too... Don't mind, but we r not suggesting anything here for our use... lol

    5. Show me a Centrino 2 based lappy for 37k from dell... I'll recommend that too...

    p.s.- nothing personal

    Acer [same Notebook]

    Dell [same Config]

Both have exactly same config Except the fact that

    Dell has 2 items extra

    1) Audigy sound Blaster Dedicated sound card
2)Dell 1 year free support [InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis]

Dell also gives you choice of colors [5-6 colors]

    And The price ................ Guess

    ?????

    ??

    ??

    ?

37k [Given online transparently unlike Acer and all other laptop companies in India(Strangely you ll see that their US sites will give pricing Online but not Indian )] And You can get it for lower thru their service agents

PS- Nothing Personal ....... Ofcourse not ...... If i use Bold , Red Big Sized Fonts ...it means i am trying to Call Attention to Important points ....... Doesnt mean i am Angry   [if thats what u thought ]

My previous posts were made hurriedly .... maybe it gave u impression that i am angry .... but i was in a hurry [doing 4 things at the same time]

I am not brand conscience , i have used[still using] Dell ..... But its a very old one ...... And lot of my friends have bot Dell [recently] and i helped them choose it by researching lots of Brands [including Acor] .. so i know ......

I know only one laptop that can beat Dell in looks and that is Sony Vaio ..... No other comes close [ if u pay more u can get killer looks for Dell, its ur option]

Centrino 2 is not going to give you HD support ...... Nor is it going to let u play games [ released after 2005] ........ And it does not let u increase the quality of multimedia [movies /games] ...........

This can be enabled only in Nvidia dedicated cards .........

Processor is not significant in Multimedia apps .... only in research where a lot of processing needs to be done .........

More Ram=Decreases Game load times , increases the speed of searching copying etc
Graphic cards = Increases the Quality of all multimedia and enables effects in Vista etc

Processors role in Multimedia is very limited .... so that argument is not valid

But for ur satisfaction i ll check Dell for that functionality

Buddy u comfortably skipped 2 most important things for any basic laptop right now... Graphics Solution and Centrino 2 certification...

Now lemme explain... Dell is offering Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100... which is in use since early 2007... now we r going into 2009... and its kinda primitive...

while acer is offering Intel® GM45 Express Chipset with integrated 3D graphics, featuring Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (Intel® GMA 4500MHD)... which is latest on the horizon and which complies with Centrino 2 certification...

Now if u wanna know about centrino 2... u can visit here... Centrino 2... apart from optimising battery backup & life best so far... it offers new standards in wi-fi technology 802.11n... And most importantly increase in overall performance of the laptop...

even if someone will sell dell inspiron 1525 in 37K... I'll suggest to go for acer aspire 4930... Simply cuz its offering latest in most important things concerned with a lappy's performance in a relatively lower price when we talk about same config...

1.That config is only to explain that there is little or no price difference between Dell and Acer

2.I too said before that integrated Graphics is good for nothing .... i included the config only to illustrate that there is very little price difference .......

3.Like i said before Dell provides some of the best Dedicated graphics Card ....Nothing comes for free ofcourse .It ll Hike the price

    4. Ok In those particular config , Acer Has an extra feature Centrino 2 ..... But you forget that Centrino 2 is not invented by Acer but by Intel .... so def Some models of Dell will have it ......will post link

    5. In the above model both Acer and Dell have integrated Graphics .... So nobody has an edge

    6. Dell has Dedicated Sound card [ it ll cost u around rs1000 - 4000]

    7. Acer does not have 1 yr Home support and remote troubleshooting over net service [free]

    8. Online prices Are higher than actual price

Hence Dell laptops give same functionality for Slightly lesser price

One of ur misconception is that Intel's Integrated graphics card are good for nothing... Its not true actually... In a system without dedicated GPUs, intel's onboard ones play a huge role... It might not matter much in Win XP... But windows vista & the upcoming windows 7 will run better on the latest intel's graphic solutions rather than the primitive one(x3100)... & both dell & acer has discontinued support for XP anyway.... so definitely acer has an edge in those 2 models...

One more info.(not related exactly but indirectly)- the graphic drivers provided by intel in the laptop cd gives u inferior performance... its always better to upgrade them to latest drivers provided on intel's site... it does improve the windows performance & gaming experience a lot!

Acer has very good after sales service free for one yr... Yeah it doesn't provide home-support... I know that..

I have a laptop with 512mb RAM and I bought it in 2003... its working just fine and I have windows XP on it which runs very smoothly with this much ram.

1gb ram with xp on it and a decent processor shouldnt cost more then 25k... invest the rest of the money in the stock market

Integrated Graphics does play a huge role in Systems without Graphic sols But the thread starter wants a
    Multimedia Laptop
for which integrated is useless [for Multimedia laptops ]
Its always recommended to have atleast a cheap 128mb dedicated Graphics ....
Many of my friends who have brought Desktops/Latops with integrated sols are suffering now.

intel's graphic solutions rather than the primitive one(x3100)
-->Both are Intel's integrated graphic solution using different technologies ..... Vista and 7 Will run best with dedicated Graphics.

Well, I'm not comparing that acer model with dedicated graphic card ones... As its out of her budget even with cheapest 128mb cards...

My whole point is Vista and 7 will run better on the acer 4930 rather than on the inspiron 1525... in that budget ofcourse...

I just checked the 2 graphic cards [integrated]

    Difference is not much

    Both support Direct X 10

The only advantage that x4500 has is HDCP support .

    3D Benchmarking

    Fear -> Both can play
Doom3->Both cannot play at ultra low settings
    Crysis->Both can Not play
    Quake 3 arena ->Both Playable
Call of duty 4 ->Both cannot play

Both Dell Inspiron and XPS [1330 not the other 1335]will give dedicated graphics [x3100]
While Dell Studio gives 4500 MHD

    Superior Sound
Lets not also forget that Dedicated Audigy Sound Blaster [dedicated sound ]card comes with that Inspiron 1525 [customized for 37k]
It gives superior sound [one of the mentioned needs by the thread starter] to Acer 4930

And you have a choice of colors [looks] that Acer does not give !

    Looks

    Brown Color Kit

    Green Color Kit

    Blue Color Kit

    Pink Color Kit

    Red Color Kit

    Yellow Color Kit

Jet Black Color with Matte Finish

    White with Custom High-Gloss
