i play almost all sorts of game on my laptop ... ibm r51 / celeron 1.4 / 256 ram .... from gta to fifa to nfs i play all sorts of game .... my laptop remains on at strech for almost a week as i continuosly dl stuff ... i never had a problem .... i think using a notebook 24/7 doesnt cost any harm usually if u keep it low on resources ... make it to sleep for at least 10-15 mins per day ....

NV's Ion platform could be in trouble as Intel is now not ready to sell the Atom alone, u have to by the intel IGP too, which totally suxs...... they r still having a debate over the issue.

my notebook is restarted only when it is required by the updates of kaspersky or windows update.
    otherwise,it runs non-stop.
the only down side is that temperature of the hd rises to nearly 39c.

those values you mentioned are normal.
active smart tells me that 50c is a critical temp for HD.and while gaming it rises upto 43 44c.its the HD temperatures that rise.

It is a wrong notion that notebooks are delicate. The Panasonic Toughbook is a laptop used by US Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan in desert (sandy) and arid (hot) conditions. They don't use them for casual purposes but for mission critical tasks where human lives are at stake. And these laptops rarely fail. I am not saying that all laptops are built the same but it is a fact that they have become much sturdier and failsafe. For instance, I let my hp compaq laptop run for about 9 to 10 hours a day with just about 30 minutes sleeptime in between. And then, there is the customary download period from 2 am to 8 am every night.. Just make sure you don't block the vents. I usually keep my laptop raised on a small object (e.g. a book) to increase the clearance between the tabletop and the bottom of the machine. This allows the heat to dissipate faster.

there is no comparing our notebooks with the toughbook.you could dip it in a bucket for sometime and still it behaves as nothing happened.its a different thing altogether.

my laptop runs for 24/7 with dnlds for the whole day,as i have free unlimited BB.

using 24/7 is no harm but to tell you the truth every component has a lifetime and portable devices have less than the desktops.so laptops are not meant to be used 24/7.if you do so it won't last more than 3 years.battery it self has a life time of 1000 recharge cycle which will last atmost 2 yrs.

i agree but, the life of the components you are talking about gets hampered due to heating. as i already said before in this thread, if you give your laptop only about 10-15 min rest (completely off) each day and use it almost for 24/7 its ok. electronic goods dont need to sleep for 6-8 hours like us. cool them down and they will work fine
