Default using a netbook 24/7

im going to buy either the acer aspire one or the msi wind. i will be using it to download 24/7. any drawbacks other than battery life getting affected. Are both the netbooks available in 6 cell battery configuration in india?

well as far as i know mostly all the laptops comes with a 6-cell battery you have to request for and pay extra for a 9-cell battery

and there are no drawbacks but i cant say much as i dont own them but if you use them with care then nothing will happen just be sure that dont install any malicious softwares which are most likely to corrupt windows

when it comes to battery life it depends on the no. of cycles on how many times you have plugded in and out the AC power supply and obviously there is a life span too for a battery i think a typical 6-cell battery lasts for 3-4 yrs if you use it carefully

notebooks and netbooks are different. They belong to 2 different categories. Netbooks dont have an optical drive and are equipped with the intel atom processor. Notebooks have an intel centrino processor.

Well if you are interested in keeping the machine powered ON for 24 hours then buy DELL . These machines are built on demand i mean you can customize the config. You can choose good processor and RAM then things will be fine .I have been using Dell Laptop for quite a long and since the past 1 year my machine didnt sleep at all ......i mean i too use it 24 hours ....it gives superb performance ....it doesnt heat ..like acer with AMD . Well you can talk others too ....but just ensure that you have nice ventilation system.I said dell because i have a personal experience with it and it has served my purposes and hence i can say its DURABLE.

Hey hi ,
Well if its about memory then its a different issue. Because HDD is something that can be expanded ..but while we choose a laptop the config regarding the processor speed and internal cache and RAM is all that matters .....

You can always have portable HDD to support your needs but u cant get an additional processor to boost up your machines performance.
What say ?If i am wrong correct me .

made a mistake. please read previous post again. I am going to wait for Nvidia Ion platform(intel atom CPU + nvidia 9400 GM GPU). It will be out in 1st half of 2009. The new architecture will allow one to view high def movies on a netbook.

Acer Aspire series are the most robust ones in the market... They are value for money! Good choice for 24*7 conditions... Dell is good only in XPS series! But then, u have to increase ur budget...

Dell is certainly recommended. If not intogaming and stuffs, and only motive is browsing, then low end compaq or acer is enough

Bought the Acer Aspire One today for 17.5k inclusive of taxes. Completely satisfied. 1 GB ram, 160 GB HDD, Windows XP home. Finding keyboard a bit small. There was an offer otherwise the config costs 23k.

Battery life of 2 hrs with wireless on

To maximize battery life, allow it to drain a little by working without AC power for some time. Lithium-Ion batteries do not suffer from from all the problems of memory effect but a regular charge/discharge cycle is advised. Do lot let it discharge to below 15% all the time - sometimes it is OK.

Forget the wind(it's the worst out of the lot)
the best netbooks that come to my mind are the
ASUS eeePC and the lenovo Ideapad S10, i woudn't venture out of these choices for a netbook even if my life depended onit lol..

nowadays laptops are also built quite sturdily... u can abuse them just like a desktop... only optical drives are a matter of concern in a laptop...
