I need a lap top.
my requirements are limited.
the OS must be Win XP and around 2GB RAM, hard-disk capacity more the better, should have an at least 3 USB, a DVD Writer, and it should not exceed price of Rs.35,000/-

There are some laptops that are available from Acer and such brands that would meet your requirement. Prices range from 35K to 40K for the specs you mentioned.
No branded laptop/desktop is sold nowadays with Windows/XP. MS has stopped shipments of XP. It is Vista only. But MS allows downgrade of Vista to XP if the user desires.

Hey Angel is correct now a days WInXp has vanished and Vista is coming with every laptop. It would be better if you buy a laptop with the configuration that you need without any OS...i.e. just having DOS. Then you can yourself install the OS that you need or else you can get it installed from somewhere. You can get many laptops with DOS from barnded companies like...DELL, toshiba, Acer, lenovo, Compaq etc...
go for dell vostro. starts at 30k and can be downgraded to win xp. it also comes with dos.
I think choosing a laptop from the Acer brand would be good, as it would meet your requirements, and your price range and is a good brand to choose for a laptop!
acer is not brand for reliability but they give more functionality for the price.
dell and HP is reliable.
sony is stylish.
lenovo and compaq are mid range.
35K is a good price range.
As the centrino 2 is released, the laptop based on centrino are getting cheap.
what ever laptop you buy, make it sure that it has HDMI port.
you can get a laptop with dos and purchase xp separately.
