    Question Death of Motherboard

Hi Guys, I have an Acer Aspire 5002 nwlmi laptop with the following configurations:-

Processor - AMD Turion 1.6 Ghz
    RAM - 512 MB DDR
    HD - Seagate 60 GB
    Display - SiS M760GX
    Motherboard - SiS M760

My problem is that after using it for almost 3 yrs suddenly one day when i was surfing the net on it, it got freezed and it hanged up. I then restarted it by pressing the power button but only the power led was glowing and nothing happened. I then took it to the shop from where i bought and they said "your motherboard has gone!". They said Rs.500 will be the diagnosis charge and if i let them change the motherboard, they would not take the diagnosis charge but it would cost Rs.9500 to change the motherboard. I was in a shock . . Is it because of the "SiS" brand that my motherboard has gone (and not Intel) or for some other reason? Plz tell me what to do?

Do you know "POST" test ?

1.Moment you switch on press F1 or F2 and report what you see.
    2. If the LCD screen is Ok BIOS settings should appear.
3.( assuming power unit is OK ( external)and at least some voltages are available )
    4. Do you get any beep tones ?
    5. If Harddisk has crashed also Blank screen possible.
    6. In three years , any routine maintenence was done
for dust removal / cleaning etc , was done ?

    7. ANY "CRASH DISK" available or prepared to run laptop via CD/DVD drive ?

    Para two :
    almost three years
If less than 3 years. usually mother board has to be replaced or repaired free of cost. see user manual.

If they already assured your mother board has gone, then what they are diagnosing?

I hopes You are not getting any Bios display or bios beep codes

1,Check your RAMS. Ram failure may not show bios screen
if they working your motherboard may be damaged
2,Do thing as "essbebe" said in 4,6
if beep code is there mention it and refer the motherboard manual.

3,Can you able to eject cd/dvd driver when its powered on?
if yes your motherboard may be damaged.

Any way its Not a hard disk problem,Your hard disk & all data may be safe.

    Yes it cost
    laptop motherboards are very expensive
my advice is don't repair it
try to get a new lap top, you will get a new one better than this @18k
