Default Laptop battery life

I was just viewing the thread Business Laptop, and I read that Admin turn down a laptop which was suggested because of the battery life which was only for 2 hours. Although 2 hours is quite less, but how less is it really, is it not sufficient or suitable for laptop users.
As Admin mentioned he was to travel a lot and show presentations its why he needs a laptop with long battery life, but for people who will use laptops in their home, does battery life matter. If you were to take your laptop with you when traveling on holiday or someone what would suggest regarding battery life.

Whats the max battery life you can get in a laptop?

The battery life of a 6-Cell battery is about 2.5-3.5hours with quite a few applications running...... If you are watching movies then it will reduce further..... Well i feel for an end user this should be sufficient....

And Max life of battery?? No idea dear, may be some1 else can shed some light....

To get a portable computer with max battery life, u need a "Netbook".

Laptops, don't give more than 2.5 - 3 hrs battery backup on a 6 cell battery. and then too, discharging the battery for 3 hrs every now and then will cause battery troubles.

Netbooks give max time per charge even on 3 cell batteries, but have limited functions.

you need to strike the right balance in order to get better battery or functionality.

a laptop can be used to replace the desktop, while a netbook cant even come close. eg: - you cant play simple 3d games on most netbooks, many cpu intensive apps dont work on netbooks, etc.

a netbook is of little use for things more than ultraportability, and presentations, and extra battery life.

keep in mind that Li-ION cells in battery lasts for only 500-700 recharge cycles if u have crossed this then surely they wont last for long, frequent charge and discharge shortens the life of cells, weather also plays important role, if temperature is above 35C then they wont give 100% best temp conditions for Li-ION is 7-25C.

laptop battery savings tips

go to system properties>then advance tab>performance options >and select adjust for best performance,by doing this ur on board graphics have to do less processing thus savings precious mAH in batteries.

yes, start the task manager, and minimize it to the tray.

you will see a graph icon showing the CPU usage while you work on other things.

keep lesser apps running while on battery power.

tips for longer battery life: -
1) less apps running in background,
2) normal ambient temperature (not too cold, nor too hot), and good ventilation
3) proper power management settings on the computer, for which you should download the proper power management drivers from the computer manufacturer's web-site.
4) less peripherals. usb mice, modems, wifi connection, bluetooth mice, use a lot of the battery power.

The device for the laptop is it quite big, or an ok size to carry around, because the laptop being something heavy and bulky especially with carrying the charger you dont want something extra to add onto that either. And what would be the cost of the device, as an approximate?
