It is possible. I have a lcd clock like that which is transparent,
though it is much smaller. So the technology is there.

Practically, the only positive is the coolness factor. It would be
difficult to use unless you have a blank background.

wow, thats amazing! yes i can see the downside, unless you have a plain background it would be quite annoying and irritating to use.

Also it could be easily damaged or scratched.

I think this is "concept design" by Apple, may be it is not real, but in the near future it is possible....

i think its fake

look at third pic. Notice change in contrast of plant in and outside screen. Its a neat trick IMO. u can try it. take a pic at high res of ur background. Adjust it as to match with ur background and ur done.
I could be wrong, but it seems fake.

or an easy way would be photoshop

as i am designer i can say, it is not easy as u say.... just look carefully.... ambient, lighting, shadow, colours are just perfect as photograph.... if this done in photoshop then he is great....

Its not that impressive. It is achieved by means of a camera mounted on the lid that updates the desktop with the image behind the screen in real time. Its an illusion. Its only useful if you want to safely ogle that chick sitting in front of you while appearing to be doing your work on your laptop.

I am not too sure about this transparent screen. It could be confusing or distracting.
