Default Help to install Windows Xp in my laptop HPdv9507tx

I have HP dv9507 tx laptop.
It came with Vista home edition pre installed. It is very slow. I want to change it to xp. what is the procedure to do it myself. Do we need any other drivers installed specifically for Xp. If it is not safe to do it by my self I would like to know the HP laptop service center address in Hyderabad, India with land marks. How much would they charge for it. I am afraid my free service period (garantee period) is complemeted.
Do the service center work on saturday?

I don't know about HP service centers. But I can help if you want to install it by yourself

There are 2 basic things which you need before proceeding

    - Windows XP product Key + Setup on a CD
    - Visit HP website and download all required drivers for your laptop model. IN case the drivers are not available its better to go to a HP service center.

Beware, before you format the pre-installed Vista. Ask Customer service before doing so. Warranty may be considered void if you do so.

    @npu
This is the same problem I was talking about in the anti-piracy policies thread

    PROBLEM
I have HP dv9507 tx laptop.
It came with Vista home edition pre installed. It is very slow
You don't seem to have the original installation CD for Vista Home edition.
Probably you have been given a crash recovery Disk.
Could you update the OS regularly in Windows web site ?

Reasons for slow operation is not due to OS, ,
and you may have to clean up your computer.

(A)Now open My computer and in C: report disk space and free disk space.
1.Keep start up programs to the minimum.
2.download ccleaner from filehippo.com and use it.
3.See the number of System Restore points available.
keep only the latest and delete rest.
Start /My computer/C: properties disk clean up
    more options.

    (B) now check in C: free space.

    (C) mention your modem router/model number and make.

    (d) try a speed test at speedtest.net say Server at Sydney and report results.

Para two : A new XP pro Installation Cd with sp3 may cost around Rs 6000/= or so.

There is no problem with Vista then also if you want to downgrade to XP you will require a Windows XP cd and you can do the rest your self no need to take it to service center if you dont have the driver cd then just go to this link and download drivers for xp....

Firstly since it's a Branded computer having Windows Vista pre-installed .............. you must be having either the Windows Vista installation disc(the OEM version) along with you(in some cases you may also request for one,if you haven't got it) and/or a Factory image restore utility(i.e. recovery drive) installed in your system .

since you are trying to install Windows XP . There originally can be two methods of doing it :-
(1).A complete new installation in which you fromat your Vista installation completely and then install Windows XP.
(2).You Dual boot Windows Vista and Widnows XP.

While the first method is quite simple and doesn't involve any kind of expertise as you will be firstly formatting your previous installation completely and then installing Windows XP on it.

but in case you opt for the second method then you need to be a bit more careful .this is because Windows Vista does not recognise any older versions of Windows by default that is why one needs to create the MBR entry of Windows Xp manually after the install and have the two options going in at the time of booting wether to boot in Windows Vista or Windows XP.

So,please mention what is your ultimate aim i.e. are you wanting to dual boot and not loose anything OR wanting to install a complete fresh copy of Windows Xp and get rid of Vista completely.

And well forgot to mention some companies like DELL do provider separate drivers for Windows XP.Just check out the manufacturers site for drivers etc.

no offence . but i don't seem to think that the slow which he is referring to in his post is about his Internet speed.

Default Thanks for all your suggestions

I am really thankful seeing all your responces.
Let me clarify, by performance and speed I am talking about the general performance and not the internet performance.
    Reason for changing to XP:

    1) I feel the booting time of VISTA is too long.
    2) I have bought some video training modules which requires XP and does not run in VISTA.
    3) I have bought rapidshare account and use orbit download manager. I am able to grab the list of downloads but I could not download the actual content. Only 12kb of scrap is downloaded for each rapidshare link.It works if I go to the rapidshare site and take the downloadlink for each link individually. Its dedious to download each and every link individually.
After much attempt I found that this is problem with windows Vista.
Earlier this process of downloading from a list of radishare links were so easy with XP.
Though now I have found an alternative for downloading list of links using a tool called grapid, it lacks GUI and is not very user friendly. Becos it is a command line java utility it is dedious to see the status of download and it lacks other cool features of orbit. Grabing links directly etc.
4)Vista requires more memory and processing power I felt(My own assumption for the slow performance). Migrating to Xp will make my Laptop super fast with all the good configurations of my laptop(Again my own assumption).
Please comment on my opinion to migrate to Xp.
Also I didnt get the original Vista OS CD when I bought the Laptop. The Vista Home edition was preinstalled .I was provided with a recovery disk and a manual on how to create the system recovery restore disks in to CDs or DVDs. It is just these recovery disks I created from recovery partition, that I have now. Is this enough for installing the dual booting system.I have downloaded the necessary drivers for Xp , for my model dv9507tx from HP website. I have purchased Xp OS setup Cd as well. Is there any thing I should know before proceeding. Particularly about effective required partitioning for the good performance of the two OSs. Can any one guide me thourgh the installation for dual booting of XP and Vista. I am a bit afraid to do so becos I am not confident about the partition requirements of the two OS. This is my first time. Will there be any disadvantage or memory loss or performance loss when we have two OSs co existing instead of one. Please throw more light.

    Thanks

I can easily guide you to do dual booting vista and too without removing the current installation. Only requirement is that u need to have separate partitions on your HDD !

Other than that dual booting is a piece of cake

Default Help required in Partiton info for dual boot of vista and xp

    Hi
Right now , I have three partitions , C: which is the usable drive where the Vista runs , D: which I use for file storage and installing the softwares to give the Vista maximum of C:,(i usually dont install much apps in C:, My own assumption that it will allow OS to have ennough memory to run fast), E: which is unusable and is for recovery partitioning. Is it possible to partition the C: drive further to accomodate Xp with out disturbing existing Vista. Please explain the procedure in detail. Right now I am in office. I will give the memory details shortly once I go back to home.
    thanks

OK. First let me tell you how to create a new partition.

    1. First we need shink the size of the exitsting volume. Pl refer to the guide below.

    shrink HDD partition size

    2. Next you need to create a new partition and then format it as NTFS (preferably).

    create a new partition

Well the SP2 introduced by Microsoft makes Vista to boot little faster than before.

Vista is by default heavy on resources in comparison to Windows XP although one can reduce the load by removing the unwanted startup programs etc.

As you are using the home Basic version of Vista which is the most lighter version of the Windows Vista platform as it doesn't not supposrt the Aero Experience thus is not that heavy on the system compaired to other version like home premium, ultimate etc. .... But,still you suffer from slow speeds thus,it seems that many unwanted startup programs and services are running in your system at the time of startup .............

In order to check which all startup programs are running at the time of startup you need to follow the below mentioned steps:-
(1).open the RUN command window ......... (this can be done by typing RUN into the search bar at the start button and then by selecting the Run).
(2).then type Msconfig into the Run command bar ........... then the windows may ask for a security confirmation/authentication and after pressing continue the Sytem configuration utility would get opened .
(3).then by clicking on the Startup tab you can know which all programs are getting started at the startup time and thereafter disabling the unwanted startup programs.
