I think Dell is the better option, may be its because of brand name.

Poll added to get a clear picture.

Comparing dell studio 15 and HP DV6 1110AX.

Configrations:

Dell Studio 15:

Intel® Centrino® Mobile Technology Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T6500
Windows Vista® Home Premium
4GB Dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 2GB)
500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
DVD+R double layer write capability
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
15.6" 720p WLED (1366x768)
6-cell Primary Battery
Facial Recognition Software/webcam/mic

DV6 111DAX :

AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-74 (2.2 GHz)
Windows Vista® Home Premium
4GB DDR2 memory
320GB 5400RPM HDD
DVD RW with light scribe
ATI 4650 1GB card.
15.6" screen with brightscreen
Fingerprint reader/webcam/mic

If we compare the processor of both the models then dell is better then the later coz it has T6500 which is placed on 56th postion in
Code:
notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html
and The RM-74(at 2.2 GHz) is placed way below at 86. More over dell has more L2 chach which is good for gaming. So no doubt that dell is better in processing power but if we compare in terms of GPU then surly later will excel as it has ATI 4650 1GB card as compared to dell's 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570. More over the HP's gpu ati card is of 4600 series and dell's gpu ati card is of 4500 series. 4600 contains 320 stream processing units but 4500 contains only 80 stream processing units. See:-
4600:-
Code:
ati.amd.com/products/mobilityradeonhd4600/specs.html
4500:-
Code:
ati.amd.com/products/mobilityradeonhd4500/specs.html
Here are the GPU results:-
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 - 7204
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 - 12960
Higher is better

So both are good in there own terms. One has good processor and other has good GPU.

i really don't like notbook chk. Most of their comparisions are not fair. Example, for their GPU comparision, it would only be fair if rest of the components are the same, but if u look carefully, thats not the case. Also, their CPU rating system does not even give the full picture.

Also, can u include Gateway in the Poll, their laptops are VERY GOOD.

rep for u nrgz

Yeah, Gateway provides some good laptop models but they filed for bankruptcy. Also their service is not good as there are only few retailers of this company.

Acer has alrdy taken over Gateway. Their FX series will be launched soon in india, cant w8 to see what kind of price they will have.

I had recently seen their netbook. Its was 11.6" with the atom. Came with XP and/or ubuntu preinstalled. They gave a free external DVD rw too. All this for 26k. Pretty good imo.

in terms of build(ruf n tuf) quality hp is best i think. even thier buisness series also pretty good.wen comes to style n quality sony vaio is d best. acer is for its best prices of their models in perticular segments.and about lenovo, lenovo's thinkpad(formly IBM Thinkpad) series is with best performance and most rugged build quality, and its ideapad series is for style and entertainment. and about dell i would say jack of all ports- inspiron and studio r good for home.in biusness models lenovo thinkpad bits dell's latitude series(in usa). but for all over performance and looks dell xps and studio xps is pretty good.for gaming alienware n gateway. so if u ask me for buissnes i ll vote for Thinkpad! for ruf n tuf- HP.(btw the most tough laptop in the world is panasonic's 'toughbook') style-sony an apple( by the way why i cnt see apple in poll options?) for home dell's studio. for all over performance dells xps.

There is a big competition between these models in the market. The processor of the sony vaio is better then the later as it has 2.53 Ghz as compared to hp's 2.40 Ghz. So no doubt that sony will beat HP in processor speed but if we compare the gpu power then HP is far batter then the former as it has ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 - 1 GB.

Here is GPU results :-
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS - 3359
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 - 12614

As given above there is a big difference in the GPUs of both models.

Rest is more or less same. So acc. to me HP Pavilion DV6-1154TX is a best deal. Share your opinions.

^^ I think it should be pointed out that dell's extended warrenty is a LOT more costly than HP's.

Also, u can get the above DV6 for Rs63,000 incl tax if u look around.
Its not fair to compare the vaio with the DV6 as the vaio is meant for style and the other for some mainstream performance. Comapre the DV6 to a XPS or something.

No mate I will disagree with you. Style is not the only criteria. Both laptops belongs to same categories. And btw any people who wants to buy a laptop always see for features, laptop's build quality and company's after sales service. Style is placed at something in between, not at the apex.

I think u did not understand what i meant. Different people have different likes and dislikes. For those who have style as top priority will go for a vaio.
Otherwise Vaio will lose at every price point if u go by the specs. Different laptop are for different people.

What he meant is that Dell owns alienware. So Dell = Alienware.
