Default Guidance needed to buy laptop

    Hi all,

I need help to find out the best laptop to buy, under the following specs

    1. My budget is between between 35k upto 45k
    2. 4 GB of RAM
    3. Graphics/Video card
    4. at least 250 GB HDD
    5. at least 15.6 inch display(16/17 is perfect)
    6. I dont need any software including OS(vista etc) which I have to pay for. I would rather install Linux on my own

    7. I need warranty cover for all the hardware.
    8. Support for 9 cell battery

I needed to know whether to go for dual core Intel or AMD. If quad core will be available and affordable soon, will it be wise to wait for and how long.. ?

Please suggest me laptops (branded or otherwise) matching my above preferences and feel free to correct me if any of my preferences were infeasible.

Go for Core 2 Duo processor.... Dont go for AMD as they are specially designed for Gamers...

For your budget & requirements i would suggest you to go for DELL & in particular Dell Inspiron 15 (15.6" & Core 2 Duo). Great value for money product..& best part they are configurable??? so make some changes if u need & go for it...

    Good advice, wrong reason

Core 2 duo is Faster (i.e better) for gaming than AMD turions. Core 2 Duo consume less power hence better battery life.

PS: I think you just woke up from year 2006

    Hi,

I checked dell site and found that they dont offer any customization to do away with windows OS , for DELL inspiron 15 series.

I needed to know about other lap brands offering linux/freedos in the place of windows, which fits my criteria.

    Thanks

    1. Most branded laptops come with pre-installed OS (usually Vista). There is no option in that. But you could check those from HCL who may provide the laptop without OS. I am not sure on this.
    2. If you are going to move quite a lot, then I would suggest going for a low-weight compact laptop. But these will be much costly.
    3. If you are not a gamer, then there is no need to buy a laptop with separate graphics card - onboard GFX card will suffice.
    4. All manufacturers provide 1 year warranty and you can buy extended warranty from there on.
    5. 9-cell battery is an option and comes at an extra cost.

Dell sells laptops with custom configurations and that also includes operating systems. If I remember correctly there is an option not to include any operating system.

I found that HCL offers laps with freedos and graphics card, with 5 k less than DELL.

Is it advisable to go for HCL instead of DELL. What is the overall feedback of HCL in terms of quality, reliability and customer service.
