Hi puchu I also bought the same ASUS laptop really like the laptop how is your experience regarding service?
- Everything is good except the battery life, may be some manufacturing defect or something, but the battery lasts only an hour max without any kind of load and with load it lasts only 40 mins. I just want to know if this is the case with you or your laptop is showing more battery backup time????????? I will take it to a service center for a check.
- Another thing is I am not very much satisfied with the BIOS.Unlike I expected, it features only limited functionality .
Although not a problem for me but a concern is that, the box runs too hot, but as I have experience with this and I know that AMD chips run hotter, so I won't say it is a drawback, after all I am going to use it as my desktop 24x7 online and playing games for all day long.
I have my custom way of cooling, so no problem.
=========================
The performance is awesome.
I tried to put some serious load on it to test the capacity.
all this at a time but still the responsiveness did not even deteriorate a bit. Clicking on drives , opening folders, opening a word doc were working as if there was no load at all, and of course the movie playback was smooth too. I think the AMD processor has done its job.
- one process generating NTLM hashes of length 1-12 with all alphanumeric and 33 special characters
- one process of 7zip compression of 3.3GB folder
- one process of playing a video
- one process of bruteforce attack for testing my wifi password
One strange thing I have observed that as per my knowledge a 32 bit OS like xp should address only 3GB RAM(laptop has 4 GB) but it shows 3.25GB (rest .75 GB is shared graphics memory for the ATI card ) . I don't have any clue , how it is doing so. I have done this on my desktop(another AMD), but it shows 3GB unlike the laptop.
I am experiencing the same thing battery last for 1 hr but i have used lenovo & dell laptop both of them also gegive 1 hr backup .About getting hot ya the processor gets hot quickly also the adaptor also got hot but still i really like the perfomance of laptop running windows 7 on it & runs very smooth really good graphics
As u told about win XP it will always show 3 gb of ram when you will run 32 bit operating system as it has 64 bit processor so max it will use 3 GB I knew this thing before even buying the laptop but still it is best as compared to other in market regarding price & performance
Q what you mean by custom way of cooling ? How you do it?
Well nothing special,
I had ball bearing fan from my old box which I was not using.
Just to add some ventilation I have placed my laptop on a board with a stand where the rear of the laptop stays about 2 inches above ground and I have fixed the fan on the board (rear side of laptop), which drains out hot air from laptop.
I have noticed that the laptop fan noise decreases due to the proper ventilation of the external fan even while playing games. Works for me.
My laptop temperature goes as high as 85 degrees but when the rear fan is on the temperature falls to 75 degrees or less.
