Default Which is the best laptop

I would like to know which laptop brand you think is the best in terms of value for money, build quality and reliability. I saw a lot of threads asking for which brand to go for so it would be handy if members can vote what they think is the best and others can get a clue about what others consider as the best.

I am personally a big fan of Sony but I don't think it is the best value for money brand as their laptops are normally over priced as compared to other brands with same/similar configurations.

I have only listed 15 brands. If there are any local Indian brands which sell a lot and are not included in the list please let me know so I can include those in the poll list for it to be fair for every brand.

    I prefer HP.

ACER will be second one i will like to prefer as it is value for money...

Acer is # 2 PC Maker by displacing Dell, HP at top Spot.

Mine would be Fujitsu. I had many bad experiences in using both Acer and Dell. As far as I can see, it seems Dell value quantity more than quality. They're laptops work fine but has weak durability. Same goes for the Acer laptops that I've used.

Dell laptops are the best which give value for money. At the lower end is Inspiron followed by Studio which is a bit higher. If you want high-end ones with a good gaming capability there are XPS laptops to choose from. Last but not the least, best service is that of Dell - if you ever have a problem and it cannot be resolved over the phone, Dell will send a technician over asap with onsite service. The speed and type of service is unmatched by IBM or HP.

    Thumbs up MacBook Pro

The Mac is designed to provide the best computer experience you can have. Everything just works. And everything works together. That’s because Apple makes both the hardware and the software. So whether you’re accessing a Wi-Fi network or organizing your photos by faces or video chatting with friends, it’s all amazingly simple. And that’s just the beginning. Here are a few more reasons why so many people choose a Mac.

    1. Advanced graphics and brilliant display.
    2. The world’s greenest lineup of notebooks.
    3. Breakthrough long-lasting battery.
    4. It’s a high-performance computer for everyone. etc......

I don't compare by brand, I look for features, like the RAM, processor etc.
Looks are least of my concern.
Almost all the laptops come with a year of warranty, so I don't care about service, as major hardware problems now a days are very less. And most of the minor problems I can solve by myself.

In some of the latest laptops in last year and this year, I found out that ACER rolled out some very good laptops with above average configuration at very competitive price.

    • ASPIRE 4520
    • ASPIRE 4530 (better revised version of 4520)
    • ASPIRE 5536G
    • Aspire AS5738PG(multi-touch)
All of the above have good graphics capabilities and more RAM than any brand in the same price range.
I have tested the first three of above mentioned and they perform better than most laptops in that range.

Maybe Dell's computers evolved now into better ones than before. I had some of their laptops before as well and have taken great care of them but still has no luck. Their easy to be corrupted and break... Maybe I should give it a try the next time I look for some new laptops.

I'm using Acer Aspire 5920 since almost two years. No problems so far... Also, I've used it like a Desktop Computer.. Best value for money is obviously Acer.

However, if money is not a concern, I would definitely go for the Sony VAIO Notebooks. They look a class apart from other Windows based Notebooks. Also, they are bundled with so many features (Sony Laptops)... One of the features I like in few series of Sony VAIO Notebooks is Instant Web Access.. You just have to press a button when the Notebook is turned OFF and it will connect to the Internet and launch your browser. Quite handy if you don't want to login the Windows.

    Looks-- Mac and VAIO

I have no idea about Mac,
but I could not find any difference between DELL, ASUS, ACER in terms of performance.

When the hardware is the same, so why pay more for the same configuration.

The only thing is what you need.........................

    My ASUS has an AMD with 4Gigs and a 512MB ATI HD(1366 x 768-14") + 2 yrs warranty at 34000/- ,
so why go for a DELL with same config without the dedicated graphics (1366 x 768-15.6") + 1yr at 40000/-

I have compared DELL side by side with ASUS and ACER.
Picture quality is terrible while watching movies in DELL ,

    • Dell(TM) Inspiron 1545 1366x768 resolution at 15.6" only Integrated Intel(R) Graphics (no dedicated graphics), 3GB RAM
    while

    • ASUS(k40AB) 34000/- has 1366x768 at 14" ATI4570 HD 512 MB dedicated 4GB RAM, greater pixel density and accuracy

    • ACER(5542G) 32600/- has 1366x768 at 15.6", but as it comes with ATI4570 HD 512 MB dedicated + 3GB RAM, so gives better quality than DELL inspite of same screen size and pixel density.
    some more laptops

    • LG is introducing laptops for sometimebut still , they need to learn a lot, LG screens have good quality though.

    • SAMSUNG, I have never used, so no comments.

    • TOSHIBA, LENOVO, HP laptops are ok, I give them 50-50, niether good nor bad, build wise these laptops are good.

    • COMPAQ laptops are bad bad, never buy them if you are a regular user, even for casual users also I won't suggest.(I am not talking about some lucky people who have been using it for last 5 yrs who have never formatted their HDD ever.)

So now which one will you take ?

I will take the ASUS or ACER, never DELL.

I don not compare Mac , as those are not in the class.

VAIO is useless for me, maximum number of driver problems I have ever addressed are in VAIO and I don't care about the looks.
