The dell XPS 16, one of the newer laptops introduced by dell comes in 2 variants. One powered by a P8700 and other by a Core i7 720QM processor. Today i will talk about the one powered by the core i7 720QM as that is the one i have used.
First off, the looks, the machine looks really good, the build quality seems to be really good. The screen also looks great. Well that is what you expect from a Rs75,000 odd laptop !!
The biggest feature of the laptop is the processor, the Core i7 was a great success in the high performance desktop segment. The Core i7 720QM is clocked at 1.6GHz (2.8GHz turbo) and has 6MB of L3 cache. Its got 4 cores and 8 threads.
Our laptop came with Windows 7 professional 64bit pre installed. Many of you must have used windows 7 and we liked our windows 7 experience on the laptop. The laptop has 4GB DDR3 memory running at 1333MHz. The laptop comes with 1GB ATI 4670 dedicated Graphics card.
So when we started our gaming session (well, that is the primary use for this PC), we started off with Call Of Duty : Modern Warfare 2. The game uses the same engine as the older version (COD:Modern warfare) and hence performance was similar. With all settings put to max, the game was playable only at 720p resolution, which was a bit disappointing. Also, we failed to change the in game resolution to anything between 720p or 1080p. But then we really liked what we played and the game is a lot of fun !
That was all the time i had on the laptop, for gaming benchmarks, do check back here again.
