Thumbs up Dell inspiron 1545 vs inspiron 1440 ( Pick me the best :) )

    Hi Guys,
After a great research i concluded to post my query here as i found this site haa more techie issues discussed [This post of mine is a bit big but plz read fully].

Ok,so.. now am planning to buy a laptop. After narrowing i landed with Dell inspiron 1545 or inspiron 1440.
But after long research on differnt websites i had these doubts.

Ok now my query is the 1545(model : S541018IN8) & 1440 (S541003IN8) : Almost has a very similar config but i just wanna few techie stuff cleared here( Note : All my questions are relating to the configuration given in the dell website for india and the 1440 is 1000 INR bugs cheaper ).

1.Eventhough these 2 models have the same RAM specs, they have added 1545 has NECC SDRAM. So it means the NECC makes a negative for it. Rt? bcz for 1440 model they havnt put this.
And if someone has 1440 tell me the upgradable range for it (eg: Till 4GB or 8GB ).

    2.Display
    1440 : 14.0 " High Definition (1366x768) LED Display with TrueLife(TM)
    14.0" High Definition (720p) 1366 x 768 WLED Display with TrueLifeTM

    1545 : 15.6" 720p WLED (1366x768) Display with TrueLife(TM)
So now again it means 1545 is not HD. Rt? ( As per my knowledge , if this anyway proves 1545 better plz tell me.)

But guys i went to dell direct store in chennai and checked a thing on the display of both ..1545 has a pleasant view but 1440 has a brighter rough view.i dnt knw whether it has to be adjusted or its basically like that.i tried to adjust the brightness but no help.Plz comment on this too.

3.one more thing the store guy told me is that in 1440 an ATI graphics card (only ATI but not nvidia ) can be added in future if reqd but not in 1545.is this true ?
4.1440 is lighter too in weight and compact to carry places than 1545.

So anyway..my opnion now is slowly changing from 1545 to 1440 but still i need some expert or experienced advice on this..thats y am here.

I would be greatful if any additional advice is given by u ppl bcz few of them wud own one and will have much experience on them ( even if u gonna suggest me diffrent model,i will listen to it .)
Sorry writing more but jus wanna make things clear to u ppl.Thank you all in advance.
    Take care guys.

It would be nice if you could tell the exact configuration you have selected. But i can help with a few points.

Non ECC RAM means non error correction, this is generally more common as it is cheaper. Even though it is not mentioned for the Inspiron 14, i am pretty sure its non ECC. ECC is usually used in servers.

As for the display, both are not full HD, they are 720p (HD ready) resolution.

Now for the 3rd question, i need to know the full config you have chosen. The Inspiron 14 can be upgraded to an ATI 4330 and the Inspiron 15 has Intel GMA X4500. Well, i can tell you this, both are low end, but the ATI 4330 which will cost you some Rs2500 more over the base model is faster than the GMA but it is not required.

The Inspiron 14 is has a 14" screen and the Insprion 15 has a 15.6" screen, so obviously , the inspiron 14 is lighter. Its your pick, if you want a lighter laptop then go for Inspiron 14, else if you want a bigger screen, go for the inspiron 15. Understand this, Dell is giving you the same hardware in both, its your pick if you want more portability or a bigger screen. The inspiron 15 is pretty heavy and you cant carry it to office everyday (you can but its heavy).

    hope this helped.

hey guys...i checked out with dell outlet here in chennai for the details again....they say
Both 1545 and 1440 are half HD only
Both 1545 and 1440 RAMS are NECC and only upgradable to 4GB

So i decided to go for 1440 even though its jus 1000 bugs cheaper
but the only thing which am really not comfortable is the PALM REST bcz he says it comes only in one shade that is ASH colour.
But iam so convinced with glassy black that 1445 has.So i asked whether 1440 palm rest colour be customized to at least MAT Black but he said its not possible. So now plz tell is it so...i felt that can changed. But i dint ask him anyhting further bcz he did not look familiar with things around...anyway am even ready to change it once bought ...but will dell do it for me or any other shops does so ?
Does someone has 1440 with a black palm rest.bcz i dont want to buy something wen iam not convinced with it.

    Thank you .
