Default How a netbook is better than an iPad

Well the iPad has had its big hype, but many people still prefer the netbook than the new iPad.

    • iPhone had announced that their latest OS 4.0 will allow multitasking, gave another plus point to the iPad, but this would available on the iPad by fall 2010. So heres the first reason for a netbook being better than an iPad, multitasking.

    • People love staying in contact and these days a lot of people use web cameras, and this is something that Apple missed out on for the iPad!

    • Why limit yourself to browsing, because that’s what you do when using the iPad, because according to Apple Flash is not something which is required. But the truth is that even some of the smallest of sites to the largest have flash, which means there is a limit to browsing when using the iPad. Although some sites offer iPad compatible versions it’s not all of them, just some.

    • One of the important ports for computers is a USB port, which basically allows you to connect to pretty much everything, from a mouse, game controller, external storage devices, webcams and so on. And iPad is something which doesn’t even have one USB port, so you’re really limited to the amount of things which you can use on the iPad or connect to it.

    • The iPad offers a maximum of 64GB storage, and there is no built in support for SD cards, which is something common used today, however there is a SD card reader dongle which just allows you to import images and videos. As compared to netbooks this is nothing, as a netbook offers 320GB HDD space along with built in SD reader.

    • Because Apple use Mac, you are limited well barely have any choice of operating systems, where as when using a netbook you have a choice of operating systems to use.

    • HD movies are common because everyone wants the best quality picture, and the iPad offers only 720p HD where as many netbooks offer 1080p HD video.

    • The iPad has only 265MB of RAM, which means there is a limitation to speeds, whereas with netbooks you get 2GB RAM which can also be upgraded.

    • When it comes to batteries its easier to get the netbooks battery replaced than replacing the iPad battery, as with Apple you have to send their products to their service centre to be repaired and with netbooks it a matter of going to the local tech market. And there is always a time that one day the battery will die.

    Great read preeti, rep+.

Also, did you know, the iPad is banned from many US universities as the iPad has a huge wifi issue. It apparently it had some major bandwidth issue.

A very well written post. A notebook, netbook, smartphone and an ipad all have their own advantages and disadvantages. No one of these can replace another.

Whenever a new product is launched, it gets a lot of publicity and hype but we need to look at our requirements and see if the device can satisfy our need or not and then take the decision accordingly.

I have been using a netbook since last year and it has been a perfect gadget for me which combines the ease and mobility of an ipad along with the performance and ease of use of a notebook.

Yes you are partialy right that we get what we pay. Akash tablet can be a good one for school going kids but for mature users there is no other option than to buy a netbook or a notebook.

But ipads cost more than netbooks but if you talk about performance netbook leaves the ipad far behind. So always the costlier is not the better.
