Default Ways to increase laptops battery life

Laptop is one thing that is most commonly used gadget in the world around. With its portability feature, it has made our lives much easier than before. It does not matter wherever you are but if you have your laptop around you can do all your work, get connected to your folks and everything that you normally does on a computer. But for this, it is very important that you have enough battery back up in the laptop so that it does not turn off while you are just about to plan a million dollar deal.

Here are some ways through which you can increase the battery life of your laptop.

Well, the first thing that you all shall keep in mind is that you must never leave any DVD or CD after your work is done. The disk takes away a lot of battery from your system when it rotates.

Take off all the external gadgets like I-pod, pen drives, speakers if they are internal, blue tooth etc.

Try avoiding use of an external mouse as this too shortens the battery life of the laptop.

If you have a screen saver; then switch it off. You may not know this but it takes away a lot of battery life.

Switching off the speakers when not in use would also help you increase the life of your laptop battery.

Adjust the brightness of your laptop screen to minimum and as low as you can bear. The more the brightness, the more dragging of the battery of your system.

It is advised that you must not work on a number of programs together when the laptop is on battery.

Just open one or two at a time and try to avoid spending time on your laptop just for the sake of spending time.

    thanks for the details

    Also
disconnect the power cord after the battery gets 100% charged

or remove the battery if you want to use the laptop for longer time as a desktop

Thats more of a myth! If you do that all the time your battery will drain out in no time!

or remove the battery if you want to use the laptop for longer time as a desktop
That will make the laptop a sitting duck incase there is power failure or voltage fluctuations.

A laptop is not for life to begin with and most laptop batteries will last 3-4 years without considerable loss in performance.. Why worry about the battery life atall? Even if your laptops battery dies on you it wont cost a fortune so why loose your sleep over it.

Batteries are batteries and they don't last for ever.. a month or two sooner or later doesn't really make much difference. I have never had to buy a new battery till date because the battery lasts more then 3 years and by that time its time to shell out more money on a new laptop to keep up with the new technology.

there is nothing like overcharging in laptop batteries... if u r connected to the power supply n ur battery is fully charge, battery goes into idle mode... at tat time only direct power will be used to run ur laptop.... the life of the battery depends on certain number of recharge cycles... i dont know the exact number... for example 1000 recharges, after 1000 recharges ur battery dies.. for all other queries on battery, you can read it here

a highly de-fragmented HDD of laptops spins for loner time to fetch data for you. This consumes power.

Defragment the HDD at regular intervals, and it helps lower battery consumption and longer battery life for each charge.

In modern world, we cant perhaps switch off and ON Laptop while in office or on internet.

It is but natural that batteries have life depending charge, recharge cycles.
generally , it would be better to try using battery till alarm and later re charge than go on charging for every 30 or 60 mnts of usage.

Thanks for these nice tips, I have just replace my old laptop with a new one and the reason of replacing the old one is the battery. I have been facing problems with the battery for sometime and have lost my data twice. These tips would definitely be very helpful in taking care of my new laptop's battery.

If you travel often and work while travelling, you can use a longer battery life. Lower the accuracy of the LCD awning if application your laptop. When you are not using your laptop, turn it off or place it in sleep or hibernate mode. Keep Your Hard Drive in Shape. unless you are next to a power outlet you will want to remove all those things that you have plugged in.

I would like to add some more points

keep all the vents of lappy clean and at a bit height from the flat surface so as to facilitate heat dissipation.
    else
the cpu fan has to run faster which consumes more power so as to cool the processor.

also all the latest lappy got the overcharge protection so no fear in overcharging.

    last but not least ,
it is the tendency of rechargable devices to lose their full capacity after some charge-recharge cycles. There is nothing /no one to blame about it.

Default If you want long battery life buy a netbook instead of a notebook

Well if you guys want to have a long battery life, you should buy a netbook. A netook can give 8-10 hours of battery backup. I have been using a netbook since last year and till now it is giving me 6 hours of battery backup. A netbook is very light and made to make it easy to use for people who want to take their netbook along with them whenever they are on the go.
