Default Buying a laptop and confused, pls help :)

    Hi Guys,

I am looking a buy a laptop since the past few days (rather months) after hours of research i have finalised the configuration and the models. Now I need some expert help to guide me further.

    Lets start with my requirements:

    • Home use of MS office
    • Watching movies saved in an external 1TB portable HDD
    • Corel Draw for graphic designing
    • Web surfing (with multiple tabs in Firefox /Opera)
    • Music - listening and some editing
    • Downloading stuff off the net thru wi-fi

So I have decided this config

    • Core i3 330M or 350M (2.13 -2.26 GHz) (3M L2 Cache)
    • 3GB RAM
    • 320 GB HDD (5400 rpm if it's 7200, better)
    • Graphic Card with 512MB Dedicatd RAM (Minimum)
    • 14 inch or 15 inch - Any will do
    • Windows 7 Home Premium (if no then, Home Basic will do)

The models that I am shortlised. They all meet have above configuration:

    • Sony Vaio EB14 (model # vpceb14en) (Rs. 37,500)
    • Dell Inspiron 14 (model # S541041IN8) (Rs. 36,300)
    • Dell Inspiron 15R (model # T540605IN8) (Rs. 36,800)
    • Dell Inspiron 14R (model # T540510IN8) (Rs. 39,124) -Includes Win 7 Home premium
    • HP DV4-2123TX (Rs.42,000) -Includes Win 7 Home premium with Multimedia remote and finger print reader

they are not allowing me to post links thier config page, so please google the model numbers for details

    So now please tell me:

    • If these PCs are good enough to meet my requirements
    • If there are other configs / models in Dell, Sony or HP that are in Rs.30-Rs. 40K range with similar config
    • If I can do these tasks with a Core 2 Duo Laptop

I know my request is a bit long, but I plead you'll to help as this is the only place I can hope for some good opinions.

Please help me solve this confusion

    Thanks in advance

    Thanks Vinit.

Dell was my original choice but I have to order online only where touch and feel is not possible. Also Sony Vaio & HP have attractive looks some extra features like Remote and finger print reader etc.

If you're referring to the Sony VAIO VPCEB14EN/BI, I would suggest go for it. It's offering the dedicated graphics card. Apart from that it comes with whole bunch of useful software like WinDVD, Picture Motion Browser(PMB), Adobe Premiere Elements 8, Adobe Photoshop Elements 8, Roxio Easy Media Creator which you may find handy.

The best feature is the Quick Web Access. It means that you can browse the web without turning on the Notebook. You just have to press the Quick Web Access button and the browser will launch on your screen without logging in the Windows. Hence, saving the Battery.

It's unbeatable in the picture quality too. Quite useful if you prefer to watch movies on the Notebook.

I have been using Dell Studio for 18 months and I have to say I'm not very satisfied. Performance is ok, but the problems I have are the following:

    >> Poor battery backup these days(battery replacement costs about 6k...)

    >> Heats up pretty fast

    >> Extemely poor slot load dvd drive(gets stuck all the time)

    >> Not too helpful after sales support

I took a Lenovo Core 2 Duo last week, seems ok so far.....

I am using a Dell Studio since the previous year. I have not yet faced any vexing problem with the product - except this one time when the adapter went kaput. The Dell support team helped me to procure one of those for 2,000/-.

I would recommend the same any day ..

    Hello,

You have good configuration but always remember don't purchase licensed Soft wares.i think 7000 Rs go down from actual price of your PC.

You will find Registered Software from me or any close friend free of cost.

    Best Wishes
    Sam
