Question Need to buy a new laptop

    Hey guys,
I want to buy a new laptop under 1000$ or 50k
If the price difference is large (about 5-10k) I dont mind sacrificing the warranty and buying it from US

My requirements are Good battery Life and Mobility and a good graphics card

Can you please suggest a good model?

ready to sacrifice good battery life for performance?

have a look at this article, there are some options there, pick what you feel is right, buying from the US is a better idea IMO.

If you purchase a laptop from US it will carry a international warranty and will be valid in India also. HP, Dell, Acer all provide international warranty. For Sony you have to register your laptop on International warranty registration website.

You can go for customization in HP or DELL, this way you can choose what exactly you want.

The link given above contains good option if warranty is not a concern.

I think Dell is giving me the best deal
Acer and Asus,MSI are cheap but i doubt their quality
Dell is a reputed brand and the laptop should work fine for atleast 3yrs

both the options are poor choices, they are both low end graphics cards and I would avoid them. $800 is too much for them.

If you would see my article, the two best options you have are:

    Gateway NV79C47u : $749

    Acer Aspire AS7551G-5821: $799

Both are far better in terms of graphics performance, the Gateway has a Core i5 450M , which is a dual core processor with HT. The acer has a Quad core phenom II processor. I would personally go for the Acer.

If you are worrying about the brand, well, Acer is the fastest growing branded PC maker, its the 2nd biggest in the world, after HP, Dell is 4th....

Isnt there a finger print reader for ACER,because that is the top priority for me

The only place where Acer is at an advantage is at RAM and HDD
Otherwise DELL has an LED display,1gb Nvidia 330 dedicated graphics

lol...the Acer has ATI HD 5650 graphics card, better than the GT330 dude...no one uses a finger print reader these days, but I am not sure if it has one or not.

Acer doesn't spends too much on advertisements and looks as compared to other reputed brands, but this doesn't means it is compromising on quality. Many of my friends are using acer for years now and didnt had any problems with their machines.

The model previously said about Aspire AS7551G-5821 doesn't have a finger print reader as acer.com has not specified it in specifications and photos either

IMO Acer is most durable brand right now. Dell used to be the safe bet, but it's not anymore. I've seen many Dell laptops breaking down after couple of years.

One of my friends is using Acer since last 5 years (celeron processor, 512 MB RAM). He has downloaded over 2000 movies on that never say die laptop. Only the battery doesn't work anymore, but hang on; is he not using it like a Desktop? lol

My brother is using one Travelmate series Acer laptop since last 4 years. I've seen him shutting down the laptop on rare occasions.

I'm using one Aspire series laptop since last 2 and half years. I had to change the DVD Writer once cuz I burnt around 150 DVDs in a single month. Thankfully that happened when my Laptop was in the Warranty period. Acer Service Center changed it within 3 days from the day I registered the complaint without any cost. From then I'm using external HDDs to store my data.

FYI Acer is the no. 1 brand in Europe and 3rd largest in the world. As someone mentioned, they haven't spent much on advertising in India. So very few are privileged to use a laptop like a desktop.

Dude, go for the Home Premium.

In terms of Build Quality, Reliability- Acer

After Sales Service (after warranty expires)- both Dell and Acer are equal as there won't be any in-home service in Dell after the warranty expires..

That's nice to buy the laptop for the portability. There is the some factors to require keep in mind before going to buy a laptop:

    (1) Look at the screen; get a feel for the size you are comfortable working with. Make sure you are comparing similar resolutions; common laptop screen resolutions start at 1024x768 (called "XGA") and higher, rising proportionately with screen size.

    (2) Spend some time trying out the pointing devices as touch-pad and joystick as well as the different manufacturers' keyboards. These components are personal preference selections.

    (3) If you plan on using the keyboard for extended periods, consider buying an external mouse.
