Default 10" netbook or a laptop?

    my requirements are

    1.watching videos which are 624 x 352 resolution 25 fps.(no more than that)
    2.net surfing and torrents.

and "absolutely" nothing else.no processor intensive or graphics intensive activity.
don't need any DVD writer, media card reader.
i have zeroed it on the dell inspirion mini netbook.
secondary storage will be handled by a 1TB HDD.
    will i go wrong?

If you are prone to after buying resentments, try a laptop. It is a one time investment. But if you are rigid on your requirement a net book will serve the purpose.

Dell Mini is good. Also check Acer and HP. Normally, irrespective of brand, all netbooks are same. It is just the brand value that they add to price.

I don't understand this claim, do you mean, you would download movies or video of only this resolution or below,

or you have a desktop where you would convert everything to this res and watch it??(doesn't make sense!!).

and if you are just gonna watch movies(SD) and may be just browse. then netbook would be a better bet. I think Lenovo s10 is a good option(battery life on the lower side), Samsung NP N150, MSI u135(very good battery life) i think are better then Dell Mini.

i have specified the exact resolution because all HDTV rips of english TV series are of that range more or less.also DVD rips of movies also belong to the same catagory.350 Mb for a 41 minute file and 700 Mb for a 1 h 30 min file is good enough for me,720 P or full HD videos are too big for indian ISPs to handle.

dell mini gives resolution upto 600 P and the display is 16:9, so i won't get black stripes on the screen.and one more factor is price.22 k is all i can spend for a computer for now.

HDTV rips of your specified resolution will play smoothly on a netbook. but in many case youtube videos when played on full screen tend to slow a bit. if the video bitrate is on higher side with the same resolution as in case of 1.4gb rips the netbook tends to slow down the video quality. else its a good option if u can stick to same resolution and dvdrips of 700mb and less.

See video size is affected greatly by another component called bit-rate.Now you can get a higher resolution video at lower bit rate having the same size.(Video quality will degrade a bit though).

All the models i have specified are sub 22k category. MSI U135 @ 21k. Lenovo s10 @ 15k+. Samsung NP N150 16.5k.Acer one D260 at 17k is the best buy according to me(7hrs battery life) . Also Asus eee-PC has arrived. But pricing is not great.

A netbook will be perfect for you. It is made exactly to satisfy the kind of needs that you have. A netbook will give you higher battery life and light weight along with its low cost compared to a notebook.

Intel Atom processor based netbooks are very reliable and their performance based on my experience is also very good. So you should go for one netbook powered by Atom processor.
