The difference in price is the windows OS edition.
    Home and premium.

I don't use either brand. But I've got friends and business associates that really like Dell. Hp were a favored brand during the 90's but somewhere along the line their quality started to wane. However, they still release some pretty good inkjet printers. As far as laptops are concerned, I think it's a safer bet to go with Dell.

Both Dell and HP are really great brands of Laptops. I am using a HP 15r and I have encounter no problems, it is really a good choice. I would never change it for any other. I highly recommend HP laptops.

Both HP and DELL has excellent computers. Considering the price and the tied system. The tiebreaker would be technical support. At least here in Brazil Technical Support in DELL is excellent. When my Laptop damaged I talked to the technicians and DELL They resolved quickly. I highly recommend it!

My opinion between those 2 brands is definitely Dell. Generally HP laptops are the worst amongst all brands, take this in mind: HP is FOR MONITORS AND PRINTERS, not laptops, period. There are simply better brands and as cheap as HP if we are talking about prices.

And Dell is not the best as well, but since you asked us only about those 2 brands, the best is Dell. Now if you ask amongst all brands, Dell is not one of the best definitely.

Dell is my first preference. I can buy a Dell laptop with 3 year replacement warranty for the price of same configuration HP laptop. Dell provides best service(in India, don't know about other countries). I bought 3 laptops till now, all are Dell.

Recently I came to know that, Dell started selling batteries for their laptops. If we buy battery from a third party, warranty comes for 3-6 months only, whereas Dell is providing 1 year warranty for the new battery.

In general, Dell notebooks are of excellent quality, having few models considered basic. This means that the company focuses on making stronger designs with intermediate configurations considered. IE: they do not have very basic models and not cheap)
