Usually, buyers pay by credit card , warranty period is extended to 2 years by some credit card companies.
    Check this point.

    2.
The SMPS power supply usually Input 100V~A.C to 240 ~A.C
    output 19.5 =D.C 3 Amps.
    Ask your brother to check.

    3.
If the OS Usually windows 7 OEM copy, ( No CD)
ensure crash disk is given etc.
I am using laptop purchased in U.S only.SONY Vaio with windows 7 Pro.
Earlier I had Dell Inspiron 8000. also from U.S ( display problem)

Even earlier :Sony Vaio Fx 215 from U.S. replaced hard disk OS etc. Standby with XP pro sp3.

    4. You may also check whether OOMA VOIP module can be
purchased for your family to make International calls via Internet.
You will get a U.S phone number.( locked )
Vonage VOIP also available at $25 per month payable in U.S

essbebe, thanks for the sharing. A new knowledge from you. I dare not buy technology gadget from US because I am sure there is some locking/restriction. The power plug is also another convern as I have to buy a convertor.

In U.S some models are available at very low price, (due to introduction of new models ) and high discounts during Thanksgiving /Labour Day/Stock Clearance etc etc, and many take advantage of this.

The subject is LAPTOP computers and no question of locking!
Anyway most are "Made In China "
Power plug Adaptor/s are not a big issue..

110V and 220 V A.C. Most electronic equipments are dual mode type.with smps power supply the input range is 100 V to 240V A.C ~
( My SONY VAIO 19.5 D.C power supply Made in China !)
Also the Laptop itself Made in China :
Bought in U.S , being used in India !

I would suggest to compare the actual cost in India and US if you are getting like 10-15k discount definitely buy from US but if it's only 4-5k buy it from India itself. warranty is not an issue some companies have world wide warranty policy so you can cross check this first.
