    from google search:
Hi- I wanted to repost and see if my solution solves anyone elses high frequency noise issue. I spoke to a different tech person and he narrowed it down to my bluetooth service. Try this:

    1. Go to start menu and in search type "config"

    2. Click on "system configuration"

    3. Select the "services" tab

    4. Bottom left, check mark "hide microsoft services"

5.Find and Uncheck "bluetooth service" by clicking on the box next to it

    6. Click apply and then restart your computer. This may stop the noise.

This stopped the irritating high frequency noise. I just had the bluetooth chip replaced but when I re-enabled bluetooth the sound was there again. Of course this creates the problem of not having bluetooth if you disable it so I don't know what the next step will be as far as my issue. I just want to get this resolved.

If possible, ask for replacement laptop or guarantee service.

    Please try a Google search
"high pitched noise in dell inspiron"
    something about BIOS etc.
I decided to go back into the bios and i slowly underclocked my processor (but leaving the memory set as ddr400), from 200mhz bus, down to 195mhz and finally to 193mhz where it is at now. at 193mhz the squeeling goes away and the nic functions correctly. the memory clearly is ddr400 because my computer would not run stable at 193mhz if it wasn't

The dealer should explain if laptop is new.

Right click on speakers > Recording devices > Microphone > Properties > Custom > Disable Mic boost and check.

    Thumbs up Disable windows sounds

I think there is a sound setup whenever you start windows explorer. Use windows search and type in "sounds". You will get a result which says "change system sounds". Click that and change sound scheme to "no sounds". Hope it worked.

    @meetddilip
In my Sony laptop windows 7 Pro
Loudspeaker ( internal is at full volume)
Internal microphone even with 30 dB boost no sound from laptop.
May be @electroboy using external speakers/mike.

Possible. No issue for me too. But I have seen some cases where Mic boost is causing noise. So just mentioned.

i went to speaker properties.. and made the microphone volume low...Is that a laptops internal problem ?..i have only 2 days remaining in warranty period..

I too used Inspiron 8000 , but did not have this problem.
Say if you want to use your internal mike and the other party cannot hear you, you have to increase the slider, Whether the person at the other end also gets this NOISE, you can confirm

In my SONY VAIO I had set all at max including 30 dB boost.
No High pitched noise . ( even you can see green bars in Mike setting )
    (a)
Better to talk to dealer, or let him check this up. keep mike in normal position. ( to get the noise)Let him suggest this as a solution.
    (b)
or if you use SKYPE or Yahoo Messenger, do the the audio tests
with mike at mid and maximum setting. Your own voice will be played back.
    (c)
or check for the Realtek sound card latest drivers/codecs .

    i use inspiron n 1040
just reduce the mic volume and disable boost on microphone in the speakers configuration settings in control panel.

mic boost is an utility that enables you to sit and relax while chatting over the internet where you might not be nearer to the actual mic on the laptop.

if u dont need that feature simply disable it.

if its enabled then the internal sound processing hardware simply amplifies the mic input and u know how amplified noise sounds like...
