Default My CD/DVD cabin is stuck, how to open it?

I use a Toshiba laptop. Yesterday onwards I am not able to eject/open my CD/DVD cabin. While staring the laptop it gives some unusual knocking sound from the cabin for some time. I tried clicking on eject option too many times but without any use. I also pressed the elect button present on the laptop side.

I doubt that there is a CD trapped inside. Can we eject it without physically opening the lap? Otherwise is it wise to open it physically? I am very inexperienced when it comes to hardware part.

You may have to use a flat head screwdriver while you are pressing the eject button, and manually pull it out. This happens with my laptop all the time, and that's what I have to do. I don't know why it does this, but at some point these trays start getting stuck. It used to do it to my husband's gaming system. He used to use a credit card to pull it open.

On some devices there's a tiny hole at the side of the disc tray that is there for situations such as this.

If there is one then all you need to do is put a needle in there, and with it pressed in gently pull the tray out manually.

Thanks for this valuable suggestion. Now I could open the CD tray manually by applying the technology mentioned by you. I could take out the CD also. But still the issue is there and I have to use the pin to eject it and no automatic ejection is happening.

I also tried to play a number of other CDS and the system is unable to sense the presence of CDs inside the tray. I think some serious issues are there and I need to take it to an expert. When I try to play a CD, it says "insert a CD" even when the CD is already there.

It sounds to me like the whole CD drive as either been corrupted or it's just simply worn out with age. If you can uninstall the drivers and then reinstall them, or failing that roll back the drivers to the previous version, that may work.

If not it's a case if replacing the Drive itself, and while they're not that expensive, they can be tricky to do so if your not confident, its better to get a repair shop to do it for you.

Such types of errors are generated when a CD/DVD ROM drive is not used for a long time. The ejection mehcnaism got stucked and the drive doesn't came out. The best practice is first take out your CD/DVD, f it's already inserted in the drive. After that you can simply open the drive by inserting a pin in the small whole made on the drive. After that check to see if the mechanism has somethign that blocks it. If you fail to recognizr the issue. Don't do anything further wiht it and take it to the repair shop. They will do what is needed to fix this issue.

I could open it by inserting a small pin in the hole provided and took out the CD. But it's still not working properly and ejection part is not at all functioning. Every time I need to insert a needle in that hole to open it. I think there are some mechanical errors in the drive which need to be repaired. If I approach an expert most probably he may suggest to replace the cabinet altogether. Anyway, I am going to a repair shop and let’s see how it goes.

However, as I have three USB ports in the laptop I am not that much worried about the non-functioning of CD drive.
