i mean the battery life time..mine is quite old..compaq nx6310...
hey no no..i meant...even if we connect it to an ups or directly to the AC power...still then the current flows through the battery..batteries do discharge (at a very small rate)...even if they are connected to the power supply...
Hi,
Please correct me if I'm wrong. As far as I know they do not discharge however small the amount could be. At the same time, it's true that, if you don't *use* your battery continuously, then it's overall capacity is sure to come down every day.
I hope you know the meaning of the *use* that I've mentioned...
Kind regards,
Pothi.
oh ok ok..i got it...i mentioned about battery drain even with ac power based on my PU knowledge..:P
My current laptop I have was working for about 6-7 month 24/7 for torrents with an external USB hard drive and its battery is still doing a great job and gives me about 2 hours back up although its about 5 years old..
Even if it does get deteriorated ... whats the big deal use it for what you want to and it would still run for atleast good 2 to 3 years without any problems and then if you want just change it... Dont worry too much![]()
ya it will decrease battery life but there is nothing to worry about it coz in any way battery life is not more than 3-4 years and needs to be replaced. You can use your laptop with ac power thats normal.
Average life of battery is 2-3 Years and i use my HP laptop a lot on AC and after 11/2 year it still gives me a backup of around 2 hours. So donts worry you wont have to get it replace soon.
And the backup depends on many things. If you are using CD Drive and speakers and running many applications at a time it will definately bring your backup down even if your battery is new.
yeah, the battery life will decrease, but there are some tips for extending battery life, google it and you will find them.
Yes battery life is finally going to decrease. But you can take certain steps to extend its life
Dim your screen - Those big, "ultra-bright" displays really suck down the power. Dimming your screen just 20 percent can add a good chunk of time to your battery life.
Unplug external devices - Anything plugged in via USB, FireWire, or PC Card/ExpressCard draws power from your computer. Yes, even your mouse. And of course, turn off your Wi-Fi radio when you don't need it.
Minimize CD/DVD use - Optical drives are probably the worst offender on your notebook when it comes to battery use. Unless you're watching a movie, don't even leave a disc in the optical drive, as Windows loves to occasionally read it, just to check on things...
Add more RAM - More RAM means the computer will access the hard drive less frequently, and the hard drive uses much more power than your RAM sticks.
etc. etc.
i turn on the adapter only when i switch on the lap. Other times, i dont charge.and charging 12/7 is very bad for laps
no it wont effect ur battery life ... make sure the earthing is correct and if possible let ur laptop run on battery for some time everyday ... get the battery discharged occasionly
i heard this from many people that if you use the battery only when there is no power,it improves battery life.i am not sure though as i always run the laptop on power, with the battery removed.
The more you charge-discharge the battery, the faster it will run out.So obviously running on power without batteries will help I think.
No. Li-Ion batteries (used in computers and most electrical equipment) do not like to be fully discharged. Discharge them up to 20%.
The battery manual in my computer (Lenovo R60) says that periodically discharge and recharge batteries for optimum performance and long life. Also ensure power schemes that enhance battery performance. If you run on AC power only all the time, your batteries will degrade faster and will have loose capacity to hold charge for a longer period.

Ya you will need to use it once in a while.
Holds true for any electronic item..long periods of disuse reduce performance.
i do use it whenever i take it to the college.and make sure i use it up completely yo around 4 5% remaining.
i found out notebook cooling pads in a site??
what are they for? are they any help??
Notebooks have this tendency of freezing up or locking up when getting heated up. This heating will occur on extended hours of usage. Hence these cooling pads are available which are nothing but a series of fans, designed to keep the notebooks cool. Moreover the component life is increased on cooler environments in the case of laptops.
