i use ubuntu i have no problem for all the basic tasks but for simple task like checking for drivers and installing some specific software i eats my brains out and i have to google every 2 minutes audio quality is mediocre without drivers and installation by packages are **** the computer does not know whether it is an archive or a package and the package manager does nt know where the package is even though u opened the manager by clicking on the package and to find out new software that works with my 64 bit installtion i had to gop through hell and back i cannot even use youtube becuse flash cannot be installed into my system when i tried to install it said that i had a 32 bit version of flash it was page that ubuntu led me too in the first place lack of support and the lack of ease in access is the reason why i can never dumpvista for ubuntu eventhough it does not have viruses and have u people noticed when u run linux u get a higher temp reading eventhough u do not use head inducing tasks like dvd burning and also gaming just standby burns it up![]()
You should not have install 64 bit version even if you have enough technical knowhow & winXP64 was also criticised. As for your claim , to test I just burned & watched a vid & have 9 tabs open in firefox, results only 5 percent CPU consumped & 44% memory consumption. To use softwares other than from ubuntu & canonical you have to add repositories.
You might have read the solution to this in the comment page. You have to use the gtk version instead of the link (Qt version) given by me.
Just simple suggestion, try Mandriva 2009.1 x86 64 all the above problems will be solved. Infact flash 10 is released for 64 bit *nix first not for windows, I don't understand how you are googling!!! I am using flash in my 64 bit Mandriva since Dec 2008
It is lack of knowledge in fact, I use mandriva for adding repositories there is easyupri, just a web site from here you can manage repositories this site will auto detect your current version. Like that there might be siple ways of doing that in Ubuntu, if you mention the same it will be helpful for him.

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 and it's great to use. It's so user friendly for anyone with basic computer knowledge can use it. With an internet connection it's:santa::1eye:

hmm... I have been linux user ever since I passed out my PG. I was doing my project using VC++ and really hated everytime the OS crashed/BLOD. So after my final year project took a plunge in linux and started liking it.
I make use of both GNOME and KDE - even try to scribble code at times using Qt.
I used RH 9 for quite sometime and now have ubuntu.
Amazing factor of ubuntu is it's apt.
I can keep talking about GNU/Linux all day long....
happy linuxing![]()
I am using linux since 1999.I like RedHat (now fedora core).I use dual boot.I use windows for mobile flashing and unlocking only.I like linux in text mode.It gives great satisfaction.I tried diskless boot and succeeded w/o any help from any person.
I've been using Slackware the past 5 years, now on 5 computers
I tried using DSL Linux (on flash drive), it worked and everything, but I couldn't mount any drives! It just never works... I like windows for it's automatic drive mounting feature, it's really useful, but learning how to do it on linux would be even more useful.
Why DSL ?
DSL is meant to give full hardware support . It's purpose is to give you minimum work environment.
Why don't you try any of the live distros from the following..................
All of the above mount windows file systems automatically.
- Knoppix
- Mandriva one
- Fedora
- Sabayon(don't go for 4.2 or 5.0, too many bugs, try 4.1)
- openSuSE and so on
Hi I am a newbie i Installed ubuntu 9.04 in my laptop HP 1211TU model. No Sound is coming tell me the steps to get the sound![]()
I have a partitioned hard drive, first and primary being KDE and the second being Windows XP. I could use both when I had a Broadband connection, unfortunately I have moved house and can only get a GPRS via mobile connection and KDE does not recognise it.
Sad really, I was getting into Linux and am a fan, but without a connection I cant even update it. Catch 22.
No, you cannot install any MS software in Linux (Unless you use Wine). Linux has its own set of free software Open Office etc., that can used in place of MS Office. Unfortunately, most of Windows games cannot be run on Linux.
Why don't you download the latest Linux Mint 8 instead of MInt 6?
Another great Linux distro you can install is PCLInuxOS, it is GUI friendly like Windows and has a great forum.
MyPCLinuxOS Home
I m using fedora 10 and found it very crappy
Fedora also one of the good linux distributions. We have been using windows for many years and will expect things to be done in the same way in linux also which is not correct. I felt linix is useless when I started using it. Now I am very happy with linux even though I am not very comfortable with terminal commands and never bothered about virus. I am using PC Linux OS with KDE 3.5.1 with Sun Virtual Box for other OS like Win XP. Right now I am facing only one problem with this OS, the KDE panel is crashing often and I am finding the reason.
I am also the Linux fan.
Linux is the best one![]()
Hi, i use linux since december 2008. My first distro was ubuntu 7.10 UUE. My friend introduced that to me and i love linux because of its awsome 3D effects by compiz fusion.
linux registered user #491068
i also use ubuntu its very stable but it takes little time to get used to it if you are a windows user. in last six months i have experienced zero crashes ubuntu is the most user friendly flavour oh Linux
