| Platinum Member | There's just one reason that has just held me back from installing Ubuntu on my comp due to the n00bs at my home (they wanna play games If i were to use the comp alone i would have made the switch months ago....one reason out of the many, the look and feel of the Ubuntu desktop... it looks just so soothing to the eyes... i fell in love with it the moment i ran it in live mode. Which makes me wonder, why does the windows ui kinda suck? Sorry i do not know about other linux distros, if they feel the same as ubuntu... Last edited by StarK; 04-03-09 at 01:54 AM. Rep Power: 10 | Well you can install ubuntu while keeping windows... I've both installed on my system as well... Therez one thread on this forum which discusses installation of ubuntu... Ubuntu Install Guide (Step by Step) And you can make the UI look better by installing compiz and Ubuntu Studio... And as SK said, you have to use ubuntu to feel it... Its so light on resources! |

Rep Power: 2 | dual boot doesnt require when you have vmware player, some of you might have tried this!! Using VMware Player, you can run multiple Operating System without installation that too concurrently. Its just like when you booted your computer with Windows XP and then double clicking desktop icon to boot ubuntu. you can work on both parellely. |

| Platinum Member | i installed it using wubi... and i'm loving every bit of it! internet browsing is waaay faster than windows. as far as the ui is concerned, the 9.04 (slated for an april 23 release) has just blown me further away! take a look for yourself! http://i450.photobucket.com/albums/q...untujaunty.png |

| @thread starter If you are concerned about the aesthetic values of your desktop, you can use icon packages, themes and desktop customizations. You can find high quality stuff for free on net. If you want to make it more easy, you can use Tuneup Utilities. It allows you download window appearance tweaks from their site. |

| @ smoothie Hey bhai!!! Just record a high quality short video, in the fresh Ubuntu with the Visual Effects set to Extra. Surely, that will impress anyone. It's just so brilliant... By the way, I will have to now wait till tomorrow morning to update and install some items in my Jaunty. |

Rep Power: 2 | Yes , what about them, I think all of them are in jpg, aren't they ? My images are of 1280x1024 resolution and max up to 150KB (96.9KB 53.2KB 74.7KB 144.6KB 78.6KB) where as a PNG or BMP image would be of at least 1MB (each) or more. Last edited by puchu; 05-04-09 at 10:17 PM. |
