to be very honesy i am not sure about it but still can you try to use Terminal to check if you got internet connectivity or not
    just try this command there

    to check ip
    ip -d addr
    To update the repositories:

    sudo apt-get update
if it is updating your system then it means you got the connection and problem is with Firefox but if it is not then you are smart enough to troubleshoot, aren't you

mail2sc pls update ... use the update manager to check if you can update ... otherwise ping some ip address .... just make sure the problem is not with the web browser

    open the terminal

    and then type in

    ping

followed by some ip address thats not yours

    for example

ping 127.0.0.1 (Dont use this address...its a loop back address...useful if you want to ping yourself)

Go to a terminal and just type ping google.com or you can select the run command option and do the same. Sorry I am using Mandirva/KDE as you are in Ubuntu/Gnome ther4e may be differences. In order to open a terminal in gnome you can right click on desktop there should be option to open a termainal

Kubuntu under Windows would work like a charm .............
but there may be some difference in the data transfer rate while one compares it with windows data transfer rate ...........

this is because Kubuntu is not devised to work on NTFS system ......... instead it is based to work on Ext 2 or Ext 3 file system ................

so,if one finds a lot of difference in data transfer rates and likes the Kubuntu OS and wanna keep it then he can use the LVPM utility available to transfer the whole Kubuntu installation to a dedicated drive.

Definitely there should be some performance issue. As a newbie it fine to get the feel of the OS. Once you are comfortable you can make a dedicated partition and install the OS in that so that you can feel the improvement in performance.

Yaar i did a major mistake in installing kUbuntu,.
I installed it on C:/ my friend says that C is already the Major drive and when i installed on it the performance will suffer cause Kubuntu made partitions in it. Is that true? I have 15gb space left in my C drive out of 50gb.
