    Default how to know your ubuntu version

    1. Open your terminal
    2. Type cat /etc/issue.net

    OR
    lsb_release -a

    OR
    go to your desktop, system->about ubuntu->version and release numbers

    uname is the command to get a linux version. there are many options for this command. type uname --help and u should be able to find everything required from the options.

    Hi Vasudha..not really familiar with the ubuntu as of yet ..but your post is informative and if ever i will use this..I can proudly say that I can at least know what command I should use if I would like to know what version it is..

    If you have Konqueror browser, typing the url sysinfo:/ gives you all the system information too.
