Thread: Ubuntu 9.10

Ubuntu the Linux distribution with the largest userbase is all set to release its latest distribution Ubuntu Karmic Koala also named Ubuntu 9.10 . The final version will be released on 29 October 2009 and will be supported upto April 2011.

There will also be a simultaneous upgrade for Ubuntu Netbook Remix users (OS specially made for netbooks).

The new Karmic Koala will focus on integrating cloud computing services . Some of these like the online file storage service “ Ubuntu One” has already been launched .Ubuntu One offers 2GB of free storage space for all ubuntu users as well as added space for a fee .Ubuntu One client will be installed by default in the new installation . While Empathy will replace Pidgin as its default instant messenger , Firefox 3.5 will be the default web browser and Open office 3.1 will be the default Office application .

The default file system will be ext4

Hopefully it will not be another disaster like 9.04 was in term of kernel & graphics driver performance.

Mate 9.04 wasn't disaster at all, I found it really good to use and better than 8.10 version. If you are facing problems with 9.04 then you can downgrade to 8.10 stable release otherwise please start a thread for your problems, may be we can help you in that way

I solve them myself. The problem I was refering was the broken kernel & graphics problem for many users. & it seems it is going to stay in 9.10:[Phoronix] Intel Linux Graphics On Ubuntu Still Flaky

I compile my own kernel 2.6.30
