Default Bootloader is unable to write new MBR.

I have xp with LINUX . Due to some problem I lost my MBR .I forgot about LINUX and restored MBR through Xp CD. But now when I try to create a new MBR, GRUB is unable to write entries in to MBR. How can I solve it ?

And I have also tried installing a new copy of LINUX but everything goes fine without any error; it shows bootloader installation successful, but the problem still persists after reboot. It boots directly to xp. Is there any solution ?

Seems very strange!!! Have you checked the menu.lst in in /boot/grub after installation (may be you can boot from a livecd and check the same). May be wait time will be too small and default will be xp so it boots directly to xp.

Edit: you may try this http://www.supergrubdisk.org/

No , I have checked many times. The default timeout is 10 after new installation and I haven't changed anything.

Strange for me too, weird problem.
