Default Review : Linux Mint 8

New users friendly distro Linux mint have released their 8 helena release. Community release for KDE is also available now.
Generally they released their new version right after the ubuntu latest release seeing that they are based on it.
So this released is based on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala.
    Having following specifications.
    Linux 2.6.31 kernel.
    Gnome 2.28
    Xorg 7.4
KDE 4.3.4 ( for Community release)

Like ubuntu it too offers improvements in booting.

Ubuntu packages can be installed without any modifications.
Most the changes have been related to gui.
Also OEM installation have been made easier. You can ignore to be updates also now. They integrated the Firefox also.Mint tools can be installed on ubuntu also. ext4 filesystem is fully supported now.
If you are looking for an alternative to windows this distro is recommended but for development it is not a good choice.
History is on the move,my friends. Those who cannot keep up will be left behind, to watch from distance. And those who stand in its way will not watch at all.http://windows7sins.org/
People are going to tell stories about me none of which change who I really am.

Mint is based on ubuntu so the default is gnome I don't think there is a KDE version. The best diro for KDE as per my knowledge is mandriva/pclinux or open suse

Yes you are right Linux Mint uses GNOME as Default Desktop Environment.

Its "Community Editions" are available on KDE, Fluxbox, LXDE, & Xfce.

You could have refereed the link given in my earlier post.
