Thread: how to connect internet in ubntu 10.10

hey friends,
i'm using ubuntu 10.10 in parallel to win7 from a few days ago. i'm using seimens sl2_141 ADSL MODEM(Type-B) wired connetion. but i'm not able to connect internet in ubuntu. so please help to get out of this

Are you able to connect in Windows 7 ? How do you connect to internet ? Simply by switching ON the modem or by clicking " Connect " on the dialer ?

Modem settings check in Diagnostics page.

I just tried following commands and got my internet working on ubuntu 9.10.
In the Terminal ( Applications>Accessories> Terminal) type following one by one
sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 up


sudo route add default gw 192.168.1.1 eth0
sudo pppoeconf
Then just follow the instructions on blue screen.

after switching on the modem just by clicking connect on the dialer

Just connect and switch on your modem (on LAN mode) the ubuntu will automatically connects to the internet.

u must be able to see a connect like symbol in right corner top. it usually connects automatically
