You might notice my attachment to W2000 as a basic theme![]()
Future is moving to stuff like Unity and Gnome 3 --- all of which will make that simple and clear layout more difficult.
Ankush, you might like stuff like conky or GKrellm that puts system, and other, information, on your desktop. There are some very nice "themes" that people have made that incorporate it. I had a go with one of the conky ones, but had problems making it work and stay working after a reboot, and I prefer to keep this information on my top panel anyway.
will definitely give it a try.. Currently trying to run NFS using wine.. Lets see if my gaming needs are satisfied nick
NFS using wine? as in Network File System?
NFS's home ground was Unix, so it is native to Linux. After a few years of using it to provide network shares from a Unix server to PCs, we switched to Samba. Samba makes the Unix/Linux/Whatever machine look like a Windows server.
I'm using Samba now, for the files shared with Mrs H on her laptop. A neat thing, that I hadn't expected, is that whenever I create a virtual machine, I find Windows Network and all those shared directories there!
I mean Need for speed game Nick![]()
Ahhh... all those abreviations!
I wondered why you were suddenly running a file server!![]()

Got the screen saver. It is cute.
Err... so far it doesn't seem to work as per timer, which is what a screen saver is all about (can activate manually) but, like I say, it is cute![]()
I don't know why they call it "expo", and nor do I know why the call the different workspaces "viewports". I don't like this sort of jargon --- but I do like the thing itself. Another way to view and choose your workspaces:

Superb and mind blowing..
I seldom use more than one workspace. I enjoy the cube and all the Compiz stuff occasionally --- and sometimes I think it's a waste too.
But hey, I'm not doing much else with the system, so not bothered.
Audacity is not the most stable program in the world (although it usually recovers well) --- if I have a biggish audi file to edit, I do switch off Compiz.
