    Default Need help installing ubuntu

    hi guys ,
I am a complete newbie with regard to computers and everything's that related to it .I heard so much about linux that i went to the official ubuntu website and downloaded ubuntu 11.10 . Now what ? how do i install it ? I couldn't find an iso file as was shown on their website .There was an exe fie WUBI at the bottom of the folder after extracting the ubuntu.zip. I clicked on the WUBI icon and it started downloading I dunno what . Everything was going smoothly but at the fag end , a pop up came out of nowhere and said permission denied . Anyways , What i wanted was to have it on a CD . For that i need an iso file ..eh ? Please show me some light !

    Thanks already !

Almost everyone starts from there .

Every now and then GNU/Linux is coming up with ways to introduce users to GNU/Linux and WUBI(I haven't tried that) is one way of installing Linux on windows just like any other application and analogy will be qemu based installation of windows on top of Linux. With WUBI you don't have to worry about partitioning the disk(as I understood from the material).

To have a dedicated Ubuntu CD go to hxxp://yyy.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download and it will guide you.

With WUBI be sure to have enough disk space for Ubuntu
    refer hxxps://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide

Yes, you'll be required to burn the Ubuntu ISO on a disk or you may order the Ubuntu CD here: CDs and DVDs | Ubuntu

There are several old threads in the Linux section. Go through them. They are the hidden gems here.

One of them which is an essential guide on step by step installation of Ubuntu is here too.

If you are a complete computer newbie, then I would suggest you to choose Windows XP as your OS and then install VMWare or Virtual Box and then install ubuntu on it. Just incase if things go wrong, you can just Right Click > Delete From Disk and then reinstall

Installing Ubuntu inside Windows 7 is fairly easy and simple. Download Virtualbox Install it and create a new virtual machine. Select Ubuntu as OS type. Select the Ubuntu iso file and start the installation.

what you are looking for is a "virtualization" solution like VirtualBox and VMWare player. They are available on various versions of windows. Some are free while others cost money.
