    Hi,

I do use Ubuntu 8.04. I usually get lower sound volume than in windows.

However, I'm not sure about headphone thing. I haven't tried it.

    Kind regards,
    Pothi Kalimuthu.

    Yes and No.

I have a powerful 200W Creative amplifier set to compensate 'YES'.

Ubuntu is not a perfect linux distribution. There are other small things too, to compromise while using it. I'm happy to do so, comparing the numerous other advantages it offers.

    Best

I have never really tried to find such sites. Shall inform you, if I do find some.

I actually have a dead (under service) laptop with pre-installed XP. Usually I use it whenever I can't do something with my powerful yet useless Ubuntu desktop PC. I usually curse Ubuntu, whenever I do so.

For example, Ubuntu doesn't support my HP r507 digital camera. I plug it into laptop-XP, download the photos, and transfer them into Ubuntu.

If you have XP or Vista installed in the same PC where you installed Ubuntu, a reboot would do.

    Hi,

    This is my first post.

I am using Ubuntu for about 8 months now. Here's the short story how I got hooked to Ubuntu....

My old desktop (P4 2.8 GHz, 1.2 GB, 80GB, Intel845) is running XP and is seriously virus infested. Done a re-install and tried some anti-virus softwares with varying degrees of success.
Downloaded the newly released Ubuntu Hardy Heron and WOW...! I could do everything I could on XP and more.
Then about 3 months back got myself a new laptop (C2D2.0GHz, 3GB,200GB,ATIHD3470) with genuine windows vista home premium. I promptly configured a dual boot with Ubuntu and now I boot into Vista only and only for gaming. For everything else I use Ubuntu.

For the sound problem, try to right click and open the sound dialog and then increase the Master as well as the PCM. In the menu try to select a different device and increase the master and the PCM there as well. I am sure you will get sound output as good as vista/xp.

And by the way if you're not using the Compiz with Ubuntu, you are really missing something. It will make vista aero look like an amateur.
