What is it that you normally expect from linux, eg. me being a newbie i like the ones with good visuals and ease of use/install.

Dont know why but I only use Ubuntu when I feel like getting a bit adventeurs or feel like doing something out of the ordinary.

I hate windows to the core but I cant quit using it either
Admin changing from Uncle Bill's Windows takes time .... you have been used to windows since years ago so now it ll be difficult for you to change to any other OS

    It ll take time

    Hi,

Ubuntu is one of the finest distro but according to me anyone can use Windows without any guidance while to use Linux one must have knowledge about it or requires proper guidance.

What one layman do with Linux? Though it provides good interface but you can not use it for general purpose like windows. Even developers who do not work on open source technology will hardly use it, may be they use it for surfing.

Yes you are right..one can easily learn to use it. Why to use it when you already have window..not against anyone's view..

I've seen on many forums that all the open source supporters shout there that Linux is superb and all that stuff. But think is there any need to announce that particular O/S is superb and all that?

If it's really great, user friendly and can be use for general purpose then whole world will use it na. Anyways 3/\/J0!

I have ended my Distro Hopping with ArchLinux, using it since past 1yr.

Everything is done according to my needs and its fully customized.
it runs lighter than most other distros becuase, i installed only the required packages. so no overhead

I'd go with Linux Mint for beginners and Sidux or Arch Linux for the more technically minded.

Sabayon 3.5, at the time of its launch.. was absolutely the best. Killed its competitions. These days, nothing exciting comes out on its own IMHO. Although Kubuntu Jaunty is something to look forward to.

Mandriva 2009.1 Spring released on 29th April,2009. I have downloaded the x86 64 free and installed on my Core 2 Duo with 1 gb mem no extra grapics card just with on-board graphics. It rocks! there was problem using Compiz in 2009.0 but in 2009.1 it is solid!. Like Ubuntu you can install Mandriva from Windows. I have tried all the main Desktops i.e. KDE, GNOME, XFCE and LXDE. Everything works fine without any problem.

Any Distro based upon the Debian core suits me.

    personal favourites: - Knoppix, Ubuntu.

and yeah, coz i use many Windows special apps, and am a casual gamer, i prefer the Live CD / Live DVD versions.

Currently m using a distro called Nimblex. this is the only distro that worked for me off a CD as well as a pen drive. tried gentoo, GOS, DSL, dint work. only Nimblex worked right off the mark. so, one more point for Debian.
