Rep Power: 2 | Screen going blank is NOT normal. Turn off acpi before booting and let us know if you still have the same issue. |

Rep Power: 4 | And must tell u that tho the screen went blank it was not in standby... and how do i turn off acpi? turn it off from the ubuntu boot menu? m gonna try again in 15 mins... plz reply ok no res... but tryin again... So i disabled acpi.. and yes it startd right away!! man i was impressed!! its so easy to use too.. i was gonna post from it if only i had remembered my ip config  ... some querries, 1 can i install my intel graphics drivers on it? and my audio drivers? i was not able to listen to any songs or play any movie on it cause of some missing codecs, can i install some codec pack or will it automatically ge the codecs if i connect to the net? xp seems outdated in front of it!! Rep Power: 2 | Regarding graphics: In my ubuntu, my nvidia driver was installed automatically during the first update. I'm sure it would happen to all the graphics drivers, if you've enabled third-party software updates. Regarding codecs: I'm sure you could install them too, if you've enabled third-party software sources. Here, one needs to do it manually. There is NO automated installation. Audio: It would work just fine without doing any changes. Only difference that everybody notices is the volume which is bit lower than what is in windows. But nobody bothers much about it nowadays, because most have got _amplifiers_. |

Rep Power: 4 | hmm... and i forgot to mention one more thing, when i gave the turn off pc command from the system menu, what it did in the end was switch off all my hard drives, while the display was still showing the ubuntu logo and asking me to take cd out and close tray.... i had to then switch off the cpu by long pressing the power button... was this something to do with the turned off acpi? i wasn't able to test out the audio as nothing wud play... i think i'l install the thing from inside windows when i clear out some stuff from my drives... then i'l really try it out  ....ok n i was just searching how to get a firewall n antivirus (avira) running on it.. n what i found was very confusing commands or something for that?! is there no simple way to install the stuff? what does the add/remove programs do in ubuntu? Rep Power: 4 | ok... i'l just install it in virtual pc and look around in it... haven't really found out all the features yet... i got the solution on the ubuntu site itself https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats Man it was a tedious task... i think i'm just wasting my time .... still i cudnt get vmadditions running so that it wud perform a bit better... hopefully it will also install after 45mins...  Well, so till now i learnt that u can install apps quickly by the synaptic package manager..  so i guess all apps available for linux are available thru this manager?? Rep Power: 4 | Another problem that i'm havin is that ubuntu sometimes starts off and sometimes just gives a blank screen after loaidng up... Even if i switched acpi off then too i was unable to get to the desktop tonite, then i switchec to safe graphics mode then i cud make it into it... and another weird thing is that it lists my c: in my computer to be 21 GB media and not the normal drive names for all other of my drives... has this got to do with the behaviour? And now when i booted again i booted into ubuntu without even modifying a single option!! The full effects are simply amazing!!! They use so less resources and are so smooth!! The only difference was that i switched off my reliance wimax antenna before booting up... m even more confused now... hehe... i'll now look around in this wonderful os before i try rebooting again to see what happens... | Hey my friend is planning to install UBUNTU ........ This is his config is it ok for the latest UBUNTU ? 512mb RAM p4 3 Ghz 160gb hard disk 64 MB 4000 MX series Graphic card [badly outdated ] will this config support UBUNTU ? |

Rep Power: 6 | Net connection is recommended for updating drivers and installing applications. But is not required for Ubuntu to run. |
