Rep Power: 6 | No RJ. The reason you got that error must be because the system didn't shut down right. I tried everything I can (including error check). But nothing worked. Ubuntu 8.04 is still a mystery for me. |

Rep Power: 10 | U mean u still have that installation? ![]() Yeah... I got that error cuz windows wasn't properly shut down... but it can happen due to improper removal of a removable device also... did u reboot again in windows after error check and before rebooting in Ubuntu? |

Rep Power: 6 | Yeah! I did. I couldn't install Ubuntu 8.04 because of the error. I am waiting for 8.10 stable to make its entrance. |

Rep Power: 2 | Sorry to hear that. For your information, I've been running Ubuntu 8.04 (clean install) for the past several weeks since my windows based laptop died. 99% of the time, my clients contact me through internet. So if there is no reliability with Ubuntu, I wouldn't be making my bread and butter for the past couple of months. So something went wrong somewhere. Explain your configuration and other things so that one of us might help you. May be you should try clean install! |

Rep Power: 10 | @ mahehellraiser but now...since ppoeconf isn't able to find any connection on my wi-fi... I don't know whether it will connect... may be a restart can solve it... I'll try again tonight... @ pothi I've Acer Aspire 5920 Lappy... Which uses WLAN1, 4, 5: 3945ABG (dual-band tri-mode 802.11a/b/g) Wi-Fi CERTIFIED network connection, supporting Acer SignalUp wireless technology based wi-fi adapter... I don't use LAN adapter... R u using it on LAN or Wi-fi? Apart from that my wi-fi is using WPA security.... I've tried it manually from Networks also... sometimes it works from there too... sometimes it works from pppoeconf... but right now... its not working from anywhere... I installed a package called "wi-fi radar" few days back... which shows that laptop is connected to my modem through wi-fi... don't know y its not dialing.... I'll do a clean install of ubuntu once 8.10 releases... Last edited by itsmemad; 10-18-08 at 07:45 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Rep Power: 0 | I have done complete download and install. When I started for first time it asked for my username and password which I had not entered any time in installation. I entered a user name and pw, but they were rejected. I tried several other combinations, all were rejected. How do I find out what it wants for these values? Thank You, Fixit |
