Reading comics are one of the things which small children like very much. Indian children and quite a few parents had befriended the famous Shikari Shambhu and his adventures, Vikram and Vetal stories, Suppandi and a lot more. They are now slowly disappearing from the stands in the railway stations and book stalls, as the lives of Indians became faster, and we became addicted to the Cyber world.
Two of the most famous comic magazines in India, Amar Chitra Katha and Chandamama have now launched their own online web portals where we can find our old comic friends in Cyber form. Chandamama came online about four months ago, having digitized all its archives, which made up almost 15,000 stories in all. Chandamama offers free access to many of our old beloved stories to attract the attention of the young readers.
Chandamama had announced that the Thiruvanathapuram-based Toonz Animation had begun work to build a Rs. 20 crore full length animated feature film whose story is adopted from one of the most popular stories of the magazine.
Amar Chitra Katha has been one of my favorite magazines during my childhood. I still remember the days in which I used to argue with my brother on who is the best of all, in the magazine. I loved Kalia and Shikari Shambhu very much. They used to make me get out of my skin.
With these magazines coming online, let’s hope that the future generations will also have the luck to enjoy such stories. Now-a-days, the children of the age have become cyber sick (what I meant is that most kids spend most of their time in front of the computer and video games that they do not get a chance to read some good books).
Anyway, we can just hope that the kids who are to build the future will overcome laziness.![]()
