Lol.. To bring it back, I'll forward a link to a page from the other forum which highlights the ill-effects of smoking in detail:

Smoking causes problems other than lung cancer and heart disease

Reps awaited here if you guys find some new information in it.

Yes. practical experience ! or suffering.
After spending 4 days in Hospital ICU and spending Rs 1 lakh
    for treatment/Xrays/CTscan/nebulizer etc.
Stopped for more than 2 years, and now
no need for Inhalers/ cough medicines etc.

Even ITC the tobacco monopoly has seen
the writing on the wall and
started marketing shampoos soaps etc !

All smokers should take a permanent Medical Insurance policy,
for hospital treatment , or start a recurring deposit each month,
the same amount they spend for cigarettes!
Say Rs 20 /per day . Check the amount after after 10 years
( if still alive) . That will be the REAL benefit of Smoking !!!
May be useful for hospital expenses too.

I don't smoke but I respect smokers even I don't like their habit. Your friend should tell her husband that his habit will affect not only himself but also his family: his wife and children. You know, passive smokers suffer more from smoking than the smokers themselves.

I am in this exact same situation now, but I'm the smoker. I wouldn't suggest smoking just because he's doing so. He'll come around sooner or later. Let him do it on his time.
