i may sound a bt harsh here but ... i would like you to ask your friend to take things a bit lightly ... going by what you have written her husband must have had this habit for a long time and it is not at all easy to quit all of a sudden ... yes he can try to reduce the amount of ciggerates he smokes per day ... but it wont be possible for him to quit all of a sudden... ask her not to take this too seriously and if possible make her husband consult a counsellor ... these sessions really help in such cases ...

Thats the point... consistent nagging should be persisted with... He'll be pushed to think about her "care" atleast.... Finally, he'll need little reason to quit it altogether!

The desire to quit should come from within. No amount of external pressure will succeed if the person is not interested in quitting. I should know, I've been through this.

I think there should be separate deaddiction centres for smokers.
I visit the Deaddiction centre in hospital & its full of alcholics & drug-addicts...no smokers ever.
There are more smokers than alcoholics, so more research in this are would help.

According to a research in Europe, Cigs. rank is 5th and alcohol ranks 9th in terms of most harmful substances... Cocain is no. 1 & Marijuana(weeds/grass) is no. 11... Heroin was on 3rd...

There are other drugs such as Ketamine, LSD and Ecstasy which I remember were in top 10!

Alcohol mor over affects ur liver mainly.....but cigs damages almost of ur body parts....!!!!

Even the smoke which the smokers are exhaling is very equally dangerous to the non smoker person who inhales the smoke while breathing.

You cannot quit by gradual reduction. You have to be extremely strong and simply chuck the habit all at once. Trust me on this.

hmm. I did not know that.

Anyway the Surgeon General says it is just suggestive not causal,
    so it is not proven.
