Like Gary mentioned there are so many pro's and con's from online shopping and the main cons i see is that the safety of the site taking your credit card details, and the product itself, as sometimes products when ordered seem something else and once you get them they are nothing like what you see on their site.
Another disadvantage i see is that if something goes wrong then there is no guarantee that your product will be repaired or replaced!

i agree with the second point you made ... but the first and the third points are not fully correct ... first of all, there are lots of trusted shopping websites these days, where you can be sure of no risk of credit card details being misused or something like that ... sites like ebay, rediff, yahoo, indiatimes, fabmall are just a few such examples. some sellers and sites do provide certain amount of replacement and cash back guarantees based on some terms and conditions ... but the second point is absolutely valid ... online shopping still lags behind in WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) concept.

i use ebay a lot nowadays... u shud absolutely make sure you don't have any active viruses or spyware on ur computer before entering ur cc details.

yes i suffered from this 'can't see the product' once on ebay... damn it was completely different from what was posted. i got a refund though.

always try to buy stuff that are from some reputed companies if u are buying stuff online since then the model no. of the product comes into play and u will not suffer from this situation.

also if u pay through paisapay, credit card or netbanking, then u don't have to worry about product not shipped on time and all that...

so it is quite safe if u watch out for yourself. i find that paying a little shipping charge is better than going on long drives to get the product, specially whn it comes to computer products. i don't find there is a lot of difference in the actual street price and the price listed on ebay at least.

i see many people on the net give up their credit card nos. to keyloggers... this was to prevent this scenario,

by posting what u posted, no offence u took away the attention from the possibly serious situation to making fun of my post.


A message to new shoppers,

if you do online shopping from your computers and are new at that, first learn about phishing scams, about the various keyloggers, viruses and spyware and how to spot them on your taskmanager, refrain from using fake software and use a good antivirus solution for your safety (quite a few are available even for free today).
in the end you will save a lot of hassle in future.

i have even seen people using windows since years but failing to know what the taskmanager is!

some 3rd party task managers like Autoruns and Process explorer are very good for tracking malicious activities. they have been discussed in some thread before.

online shopping is really cool. instead of moving from one shop to another, you get a bunch of all your favorite stuffs just in one place and you can place your order within a few mouse clicks and a few keystrokes. only cons i find are delivery time and the payment options but payment option is not a big concern since most of the sites are offering cash on delivery which seems much safer rather than making payments via credit cards.

Online shopping has several advantages like it saves our time, reduces hectic of traffic and going out in market in the hot or very cold weather for shopping. But where Online shopping brings advantages comfort to life and ease it also contains some of the disadvantages like forgery, delayed in delivery. If we do shopping with some of the trustworthy sites or after getting full knowledge about the site from where we want to get the product and also reading full terms and conditions truly of the site then it avoids us from forgery.

The only advantage I can think of is that you are able to shop without leaving your home. Apart from this I dont see any other advantages, apart from many disadvantages.

If you know the products that you want then online shopping could be a lot more convenient as you can compare prices online and you get access to any special offers instantly without having to go from shop to shop besides you can also read reviews of the product you zero in on on different websites before you hit the purchase button Just makes things simpler in my opinion.

The only disadvantage I see of online shopping is the quality of the product and hassle of returning back, this is something which has been happening with Flipkart recently. Online shops which are reputed like Shoppers Stop or online shops which sell their own brands are still better.

Least we get the online sales, which aren't actually sales instead the normal prices are given and the original prices has been hiked up. It is a total disadvantage.

It still works out a lot cheaper because you do not spend money getting to the shop and you dont waste as much time. You can also call up your local shop/store and find out what they charge and then compare before you buy. As time goes by these prices will come down every where including the local shops because they are obviously loosing business day by day.

True.. This Diwali season just have a look at the online buying sites soooo manyy offers at veryy low rates... The local market is very much affected by the e-commerce.. Most of them offera a good quality product i have never been cheated by these sites.

Although there are advantages of online shopping, a recent sale which was provided by sites like Flipkart and Amazon showed that prices are not really reduced and are the same price as they are shown before the sales.

yep, amazon inflated prices during diwali sale (whole 1 week), prices were 10-15% less on normal days......flipkart decreased few product prices & increased many product prices on big billion day....

Flipkart did this, and from then on I was put off from the online sales. Most products on Flipkart were given at a discounted rate from the MRP rate before the sales, and they kept this during the sales, so those who don't visit Flipkart alot would think that the original price which Flipkart is selling at is actually the sale price.
