Well , when I stated that geek partner, I meant life partner(long term relationship), as I think that staying with a geek lover is easier than staying with a geek husband.

    Here is another joke:
I will accept that everything is my fault as I will not be processing everything my wife says, because it would stay in queue in cache memory for some time before getting processed, and when I recall it after an hour or two for processing, it would have been really late for any kind of reaction. You may take it as an advantage of staying with a geek.

Only the place where my computer and my Electronics R & D equipments are, looks like that ,not everywhere. That picture was a joke. I just wanted to spice up the discussion as it was going really serious.

One friend of mine, resigned just after Tech Mahindra bought Satyam... Perhaps he saw the writing on the wall... His two other room-mates who were surprised by his action, got the same mail few days later!

My friend has decided to leave IT for once and all... As of now, hez learning Japanese in Delhi...

Now to comment on the topic of the thread... I will never want my partner to be a geek... As I want my life to be balanced and not monotonous!

Really feel sorry to hear that ............... actually i had learned about this from my cousin who is also back home now ...............

But,was still hoping that by GOD's grace my joining letter of SATYAM would come ............. but now considering the lay-off ........... I'm really confused as what to do next .............. ?? ...... Thus i'm also to a extend hit by this ......... so thought you seniors can guide me on this ............

Was planning to start a new thread on this .........but, couldn't find any relevant topic heading matching the issue on the forum thus decided to post here ...........

I'm a Mechanical Engineering student(still awaiting my final semester results).
had got placed into Satyam. Now,i'm really confused what to do next ............ what all options do I have ............. ???

Would the seniors please suggest some options which i have ............. because i'm not feeling good about the current situation.

The suggestions can include everything from further studies both in India and abroad to going on for a job in my own field. MBA to M.Tech or M.S. Going for Job oriented courses to government sector jobs . learning foreign languages OR working in a Call centre .whatever you feel like you can suggest.

Please pour in some suggestions which would result in a fruitful career of mine.

    thnxx in advance

If you are interested in MBA, go ahead. By the time you finish it, recession will be under control.

If you are not particular about IT, then you have a lot of options including CAD. There are a lot of apprenticeship programs from Government and Private companies.

There are many off campus programs for joining IT field. Nowadays it is difficult to secure one, still we can try.

Nice thread, but one question I would like to ask is that what exactly do you define as being a geek, every one has different definitions, so in order for me to make a vote on the poll i need to know whether you all have the same meaning of a geek or not.

    1. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.

    2. a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)

I although had given up my plans of doing MBA this yr. but your suggestion made me re-consider them.

And yeah i have already applied for one such apprenticeship program at an Ordnance Factory but being into the final yr. i don't know whether i'm eligible for it or not .

    Two questions:

Have you ever solved any of your problems(related to maths or science or something related to studies) in your dream which you could not solve when you were awake ?

How realistic are your dreams; I mean what is the intensity of the things your see in your dreams ?

    --------------------
Still there is a point why I asked.

Your question was why am I not doing things other than these tech stuff, right?

    There is only one problem.

My imaginations and creativity are so intense that I never run out of ideas ; which is a good thing, on the contrary , when I do this I tend to analyse them unknowingly, which results in a big pile of junk ideas and the byproduct of those ideas inside my head which interferes my day to day life , which is worse than being a geek. So I try to pull these things out of my head and put them on a place like writing a review for Fedora 11 in this forum, which creates room for normal thinking because the Fedora 11 stuff is out of my brain for now.

Now tell me if I did anything wrong by doing this, because this is the only way I know to keep myself in a state of consciousness.

BTW the next review is elive.

I understand... Thats why I said that... Everything will fall in place at right time... Just be yourself... But you should be ready to adapt to the changing scenarios... Just keep trying your luck... You will get success in all the fronts, sooner than later!

There can be variations even within the standard diet.
My regular meal consists of rice/roti, dal, one veggie and one non-veg.
but then there are some 9-10 varieties of dal to choose from, the veggie changes as per season, even the non-veg changes over the week.

Same for me too, I left cooking for a few months, but now, as I have all the time in the world, I have started cooking again.

    Last night's menu:
    Chicken masala
    Fried rice
    Aalu mattar

I'm amazed to see the importance of rice in South-India. Its the main ingredient here, like wheat is in North-India. From normal rice to idli to dosa to uthappam to pongal to what not... Everything has rice... Here people eat chapathi/roti for a change (I've eaten chapathi made of rice here too)... Still there are less obese people in Chennai than in North... Perhaps cuz there are not many who live on junk food... And their meals are not as oily as we have in North...

In my hometown, we normally used to eat Idli-Dosa on special occassions... Or whenever we used to go out to eat... Now its like feast for me everyday... I love the south-indian thalis... They give so many items on a big banana leaf plate...

oh yeah.....i soo very much agree with maddie....!

I somehow dont enjoy eating lot of rice......

Idlis-Dosas are exception.....can eat em once a month or so....thts bout it...!

when i had been travelling down south .....there were times specially some villages on the way to kodai, ooty, munnar......periyar....all we could manage was the south indian thalis @ lunch time......

which was really weird for us ....as we are used to light lunch....

wheneva i had to go down south for work or travelling i used to hate it......initially....

than i had a lot of frens who told me wht n how to eat with wht combination .....so than i kind of liked it.....

still in my house we dont ve much rice preparations n even normal rice is made once in 2-3 weeks hardly......
Dont count wat u lost, cherish wat u ve & plan wat to gain...coz past neva returns but future may return the lost! Think-Decide-Act!!!!

north or south, traditionally watever we are eating now, suits us best, in our own locations - thats my idea. taste is an entirely different issue.

Out of South Indian food I only like masalaa dosaa.

I stay in Hyderabad, but life for me here is tough ,

mujhe zyaadaa mirchi yaa phir khattaa achhaa nahin lagtaa , par yahaan to sab mae khattaa aur mirchi, raat mae khaao next subah bhugto

I know South Indian food is like that , only it does not suit me.

My sister likes idli vadaa etc very much.

God I miss that fish curry of home so much.

At my home in Patna, rice is always there in Lunch time... But we eat Chapatis/Parathas during breakfast and dinner... Kind of balanced food intake...

Don't compare Andhra food with others... cuz Andhra's food are spiciest of all the south-indian food... But I like andhra meals too... Thankfully, God has given me a good digestive system... Touch wood!

P.S. - I consider myself a connoisseur of fine cuisines...
