Hi,

This is my first post to the forum, it’s very informative and enjoyable really.

I’m curious about Orkut and I wonder what you people think. As you know Orkut is social networking site operated by Google. It’s less popular than Facebook or Myspace and Twitter. There’s a chance that they can become more popular than Facebook? What do you think?

It can never be so because Twitter , facebook & Myspace have established themselves.

I have account in Orkut and facebook
as i feel most Indian user prefer Orkut( although I don't have any statistical record) and 2nd facebook.

yep , in india orkut is more popular among all categories of people than FB.

In context of India , Twitter is making the most inroads now but Orkut will remain there for few years more.

orkut and twitter are beyond comparison one is a complete social networking the other one is micro blogging. and its not just in india anywhere around the globe orkut has got so much popularity that its gonna last for a long long while.

I know that but remember the chatting rooms ( I never got to see how was that done).

well ym rediff bol etc chat rooms were famous in past few years but now i dont think people are too much interested in chatting rooms except the teenagers and some pervs.

Of course things come & go but the gist of them survive.

till 2007 i was a pro chatter in ym chatroom mostly calcutta global chatroom but now i havent logged in to ym for almost 8-9 months and i dont remember when was the last time i went to a chatroom. i feel gtalk is kool and easiest way to stay connected to people who matter.

I did chat (rediffbol) only 2-3 times in life (since 2005)

Well I have use IRC but that is different & still use it.

Indians prefer Orkut far more than Facebook. FB lacks the ability to tell you who has visited your profile. that kind of irks most indians. further, the existing gmail id is also valid for orkut and most indians now have a gmail id. the addition of gtalk-chat as part of orkut has also added to its popularity.

I'm on orkut to stay in touch with long lost friends... and on facebook to explore it's applications...

well, i prefer use one as personal and the other as public! for eg keep orkut closed to imp frnds and family and keep facebook for fun and play!

well in my case its the opposite i have just 25-26 close frens and family members addd in FB and the whole world some people who doesnt even matter in orkut lol

i hate the fake profiles in Orkut. Especially the ones which peddle pr0n links and videos and such. Being a community owner...I hate to check the suspect profiles who apply for membership in my community.

Yes I own a community with 3300+ members.

I have only created my orkut & Face Book account only to contact with IBB mate .
Otherwise this account has no value for me .

well orkut was fun when i started using it in 2005 but now i hardpy even check it

Look I am using internet from 2005 but i never use any social network.
I have created my account(5 month ago) when India Broadband Community started in Face book & orkut by someone of this forum member.

exactly.... early i use to love orkut.. but now i just hate it.. thought many friends are on orkut.. i have to be in orkut.. rest i feel FB is nice..


btw wat good apps ppl use in FB ? sorry for my ignorance.. :lol: mostly i guess ppl play flash games like scrabble, farm house, text twist, taxi, mafia wars etc etc....


if any cool apps than kindly let me know...
