I don't know of any particular site, but I know that if you want your book published by a foreign publisher, you will need an agent. You can find a lot of agents on the net, but you have to be very careful, as that's a big scam zone (like when you are asked to pay a "small" fee just for the agents to read your work). Without agents, its just about impossible to get anywhere. What the agent will do is read your work, and then he/she'll decided if its worth it, and then all the work of roping in the publisher will be done by the agent.

I think Penguin India does accept direct submission, but I am not sure. Take a look at this page, its really good:

    Welcome to Penguin Books India

I've explored this area earlier though I've never written anything; from what I know, novels are the best bet - they sell well. Poetry and drama has very few takers. Don't know what you mean by a script.

Do tell what response you get.

Yeah , that is the problem in writing in English . what else to do my second language is Hindi and though I am a Tamilian I cannot write aletter to save my life.
There are few Indian English writers like Shoba de , Vikram Seth who are famous . But still I find a bit difficult to break even in the Fiction market .
By script I meant Film Script .

Although I dont know much about your field but in my opinion if you start writing for local papers or even national newspapers if and when you get a chance you would get a bit of recognition that way and then it would be a lot more easier for you to approach a publisher or a film maker... and you will get a bit more attention from them and probbability of you closing a deal will increase many folds.

That thing about writing for newspapers really is a good idea; any of you ever tried it? I've been thinking of it for a very long time, but have never known where to begin.

but then again if u dont wanna be tied to it, u can try freelancin..

Well join one of the writers association in India. If you want to publish any books they provide you with good agents.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I was working as an Associate Editor in
a shipping newspaper and was a sub-editor in a local newspaper.
Even now I am doing freelance writing .
What I want to know is whether there is an english magazine which accepts Indian English stories.
I have a script to an India who has made it into Hindi .

By the way, who are your favorite Indian writers?

I just finished reading Jhumpa Lahiri's "Unaccustomed Earth." I'm a big fan of her debut collection of short stories, "Interpreter of Maladies," as well as her novel "The Namesake." What a spell-binding, captivating, and sensitive story-teller. She's got a real gift.

I also really liked "The God of Small Things." I can't remember the writer, but another subtle and enthralling novel. I realize that these two writers are very different - Lahiri writes about the Indian immigrant experience, while the latter writes more about native experiences. I'd love to read more novels about India if anyone can recommend any.

Its written by Arundhati Roy. Well as this novel was on hype I read it but really did not like the novel atleast not worth a booker prize.
