Post Who among these fiction writers is your fav and why?

I dont read much of fiction and not such an expert in it... but anyways who is your fav among these authors?
And why do you like his books ... No multiple options pls ...

You you dont find your option there ... Post it ..

I like his books because He writes very realistic fiction without any logical holes .... he s got some serious talent in writing and well can spin out some serious believable fiction from myth/fantasy ..... His subject for stories are also very varied .. from technological stuff (Digital fortress) to Mythological (The da Vinci Code) ... and there is no decrease in quality of content ... gr8 author

Out of the choice given i like JK Rowling, Dan Brown, Sidney Seldon and the reason for this is that their writing is interesting and different and generally enjoyable to read.

jeffrey archer can get too political.
Dan brown can confuse you with fiction and facts.
Shedney sheldon sometimes mixes unnecessary romance in stories.
JR tolkein writin wa too detailes for me..i preferrred the movie.
Agatha chrisite is good for the teenage mind.

All these are modern day authors. I do not like to play favourites so like Alexina, I would like to point out pluses and minuses:

Dan Brown: Great writing style, lucid and gripping but books' subject is unipolar.
Sydney Sheldon: Shows strong/fighting women and varied themes but after 2/3rd of the book, it becomes very predicatable.
Jeffrey Archer: Do not agree that he is all political, strong research behind his book theme
J.K.Rowling: The fact that she is loved by masses (kids and adults alike) is something that has probably never been achieved. But she has only HP as her showcase. Also I feel that she has borrowed a lot of ideas of Tolkein. Unless she writes something else besides HP (as if she needs to!), it is not fair to comment.
J.R.R Tolkien: Modern day classicist. Fabulous imagination. Imagine inventing a language and script!!! But too much overdose of mix of poetry and prose. Also nothing beyond hobbits.
Arthur Conan Doyle / Agatha Christie: Legends of crime and suspense. Great imagination. Very good for casual as well as serious reading. But you cannot remember one book for more than a month, which is not the case with the rest of the bunch here.

Oh! people .. i love harry potter .. but i find it very very kiddish (Thats very strange for a 25 yr old guy who still watches Animea ) ... but maybe i am judging her relative to other authors ..?

Jeff and Sydney write realistic stories but they have logical loop holes ...

And hey nobody can beat Jeff Archer's short stories...

His latest "prisoner of Birth " was kewl and he came to India for its release ..... Anybody met him ?

amongst the provided options for the poll i chose dan brown coz i really admire his intense research and collection of facts which are mostly unknown to most people ... apart from the given options i would also like to mention one name: Robert Ludlum - according to me he is the best mystery novel writer .

this thread reminded me of a great contoversy related to Dan Brown - i will create a different thread for it - i hope it will get some attention

    As amitkool suggested,near darya ganj.

I normally buy books from the kids selling them on Red Lights (The traffic ligtht you dirty mind)
The advantage is that you may get the books @ as low as 30 bucks, while the disadvantage is that you don't get too many options to choose from

I had voted for sidney sheldon although i have read only a couple of books from his stable. I find Dan Brown to be repetitive and too much of predictability in nature.

Dan Brown is a good author. I think maybe the previous poster made an error in choice of words. He is not repetative or predictable - his choice of subject is similar and hence it may become a bit boring after some time.

Few of my favourite authors are missing from the list - Irving Wallace, Arther Halley and Ayn Rand.

    1. The books he has written are too few ....... It would be over before u even get used to it

    2. His plots are really twisty and involve subjects that u would for sure have never heard before ... i mean how many of you have heard about illuminati before ? ......... It is very very difficult to guess who the evil guys are ......

Haven't read fiction in 4-5 years (I wait for the movie ).
But I have read a lot of the listed authors. Of these I
remember enjoying classic Agatha Christie the most.
