I have generally observed that those who are unable to dominate in the outside world take their frustration out by being dominating over their wives. Of course, the reverse is not necessarily true.
I also lay the fault on the upbringing and particularly the mothers. In a bid to re-establish the loosing (so-called) no 1 position in the female hierarchy, they cajole their sons to keep their wives under the thumb. A guy I know said in our group "Paaon ki jooti paaon mein hi rahni chahiye." (the proper place for the sandals is at the feet). And he said it with utmost emphasis and seriousness.
In the animal kingdom consisting of social aniamals, the social structure is always dominated by a matriarch - ants, termites, bees, wild dogs, hyenas, lions, elephants, ... What does that tell you?
While my advocacy is not reverse the structure but equal participation and responsibility will bring the best out of you and it will be good for the children and next generation.
