    Default Apple mac

I have been thinking of trying mac OS for a few years now but never got a chance or you can say I never took the plunge

Do we have any mac users here on our forum? I would like to know is it really worth a try as the only operating systems Ive ever used were windows and symbian for phones and nothing else..

What exactly are the pro's and con's of mac OS as compared to other operating systems and how does it compare with windows xp in particular?

Any suggestion would be most welcome as I am thinking of buying a new laptop very soon and if mac is any good then I would go for a apple this time

Is mac ok on laptops? are there any major or even minor drawbacks one should know before buying an apple laptop?

    I've never used a Mac.
But i've worked on File Maker Pro , a RAD(rapid application development) tool, which was developed exclusively for Mac.(a windows version is available too)

With File Maker Pro you can develop a small application within minutes.
The user can change the screen color, put text boxes/drop downs, change labels of the application in File Maker , that too at run time, (no need to modify the source code/recompile/redistribute it- some thing you would need to do with Microsoft's VB)

The user does not need to learn SQL based syntax, he can just run a search on any of the fields in find mode and get the results wanted.
A truly wonderful application from Mac developers

IBM also have their version of RAD for windows, you can make webpage withins minutes..It supports DRAG AND DROP option for any application that you build..
The fantastic thing is build any database without executing the SQL commands.
Building any application is very easy..but you have to know how to use it..:stuart: which is not that easy..i have been using it only for building some database application

    Default nope

its a big process installing mac on a pc.. includes a lot of hacking.. i suggest u buy a mac mini coz its da cheapest mac nd is really good.

like apple says"a mac is a mac. anything else is just a pc"

    pros
1.macs never have viruses so u don have to waste money on antiviruses nd all dat stuff
    2.its user friendly
3.it doesnt hang like the windows os
4.its os is revolutionary. its the best. in fact microsoft copied some of the features of mac os leopard in the vista:clown:
    5.good customer suppport
6.long life(i used 2 own a mac which was 8 years old which gave no problems til the end.)

i have an apple i mac 17" 1.8GHz core 2 duo until recently when i got a vertical line on my lcd nd apple is replacing it with a brand new 20" 2.4GHz imac.:14::14: i dont want to give my old one back though

    cons:
the only problem with m mac is that you cannot change any parts which come in the package. eg. u cant change ur graphics card from 128mb to a 512mb one.. but i dont find that a very big problem.. hope this was informative

just search for osx86 and you will find everything u need. Step by step guide to do it. I had installed the tiger os on my intel desktop more than an year back when apple had just shifted to intel processor.
I must tell you that even though you might get it working easily it's not as user friendly as XP and you will find it difficult to use in the begining so, since many things dont work like they do in windows.

    I'm a Mac user since Feb 2008. I purchased iMac on Feb1 2008.

Config: 20 inch, Inter Core 2 Duo 2.4GHZ, 2GB RAM, 320 GB HD, ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory, Wireless KB and Wireless Mighty Mouse.

I'm very much satisfied with pre-installed apps and OS stability & performance. Previously I used to hate the way iTunes organized the music. Now I'm loving it.

There are some apps which I need to have and are not available for Mac. So purchased Vista Home Premium and installed on my Mac via BootCamp.

I'm enjoying the best of both the worlds.

There are not many cons that I can list up... Even if I had trouble in cofiguring something I used to post on Mac discussions forum and get instant help/solution.

Now after using Mac OS X Leopard and iPhone, I've become fanboy of Apple products!. But I keep admiring Windows though.

I am a bit late, but I am writing this reply on Mac OS running on a PC Platform. I am using Mac OS 10.5.4 (leo4all) on a HP Presario V6000 (V6211AU) Laptop and using Safari browser.

So, yes there are some who are using Mac here and yes also, we can run Mac on a PC platform.

    1. by 1 of my thread in the past we all know that even mac can be hacked
    2. windows is more user friendly than mac.........everyone wants mac only bcoz of its looks........
    3. not only few features are copied but also the whole GUI interface was copied by microsoft from apple nd steve jobs openly said this thing in his stanford university's speech

P.S. : apple copied the GUI system from XEROX company........

One query. Has anyone been able to successfully update their OS's after installing hackintosh? Update facility must be there, else it will be vulnerable to bugs. Please enlighten me.

once you have installed iatkos on a non-mac,you will suddenly realise what a waste of time the entire thing has been!!

the look and feel of a real mac can never match the one of this version.you will be sorely disappointed...
forget abt updating, i hardly kept it for 1 2 days! removed it completely..

actully its name is Mac Book Pro........
and as i said the difference is only between in hardwares not the OS's........Apple is only known for its hardwares not for its OS coz there is no other legal platform was available for mac.............they sell the hardware only nd people have to but the OS ultimately coz others OS's wont work on that machine..........

BTW i'm also planning to Buy a Mac Book Pro 17"

hey friends now i'll be back in 10 mins. going out for a sutta.............

hi all i have recently got the Mac 13.3 inch laptop(lattest one)
    configuration
    intel 2 ghz core2 8400 processor
    160 gb hdd
    2GB ram

One thing i can tell u it lives upto its cool factor the laptop is very sleek and sexy. When i play a song in this Mac laptop i am not able to figure it out where the hell is the speakars after so many days of research i think the speakers are behind keyboard

The layout of the keyboard keys is very good.
Mac OS X is good one but getting used after using Windows is quite difficult

All the applications has one common menu when that window is active

I have both a Mac and Windows and really there is nothing in the Mac that I have discovered currently that would cause me to be like NO MORE WINDOWS, JUST MAC! But there's a few things I really like about the Mac but I still like the flexibility of Windows and being able to build a computer or change the computer as I would like and still be able to use my Windows. As for Macs if you make any changes it can result in your computer not functioning properly as they like you to take it to them to get serviced.
