Rep Power: 5 | I have heard good things about the Logan but I am afraid that there are still not many buyers. Consequently you may not get a good resale value. The Logan gives a good mileage (about 10.5 km/liter petrol) and has big insides. No idea about comforts but the price is also about right. You have not mentioned your budget and the exact spec need - city ride, city+highway, petrol or diesel, approximate kms usage per day, etc. In my opinion, the SX4-ZXi is a real value for money (in that segment) but there are no diesel options for this car. SX4 will give you more peace of mind than Logan. My opinions of best cars by segment are as follows: A-Segment: M-800, Alto, Nano (when it comes) - Alto B-Segment: Zen Estillo, Wagon-R, Santro, etc. - Santro C-Segment (Lower): Swift, D-Zire, Accent, Logan, etc. - Swift C-Segment (Upper): City, SX4, Aveo, etc. - SX4 D-Segment: Corolla, Civic, Optra, Jetta, Octavia - Civic SUVs/MPV upto 12L: Scorpio, Safari, Innova - Innova

Rep Power: 5 | The above choices are very individualistic. Also I included Innova in the SUV list though it is not one - but it has no alternate in that segment. In the D-Segment, the new Corrolla to be lauched late this year or Jan next year, may beat the competition. The Jetta is still a new comer and it actually bridges between the upper D-Segment (12L to 16L). |

D-Premium: Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, VW Passat, Skoda Superb - Accord because it offers more value for the cost. Camry and Passat are totally imported and hence very expensive to maintain. Superb is very good (especially the diesel) but spares will frighten you more than the best Hollywood horror flick. But then, customer in these segments may not be worrying too much on that. However, for us (middle class), I guess these cars are a distant dream. That makes discussion on Super Luxury Segment (the Mercs, Beemers, Audis, etc.) merely academic. Why, a small flat can be purchased at that cost. At this moment, I, at least, cannot think beyond lower D-segment (Corolla, Civic, etc.) and that too is a part of opium dream. | |

Rep Power: 10 | I dont like the looks of Logan although Renault engines are very reliable and have a long life.. If you are worried about the milage or cost per kilometre then I would say steer clear of petrol cars and get a diesel car coz petrol prices will shoot through the roof in time to come but our Indian government will still continue with diesel subsidy for a long long time... Gone are the days when diesel cars used to be noisey and very uncomfortable to drive.. in the newer diesel cars you can hardly feel any vibrations from the engine while sitting inside... the only thing which reminds you that its a diesel is when you hold the gear shifting knob If you drive more then 800-900 kilometres a month then you dont need to look anywhere just get a diesel car which like and you will end up saving a hell lot of money as long as you dispose it off within 3 years but if you are planning to keep the car for say more then 4 years then you would need to do your own little calculation and see what suits best for you as my theory is based on a 3-4 years ownership taking into consideration that after 3 years depreciation takes very heavy toll on the resale price of diesel cars. |
